Description A little walkthrough about my new work 'Gawain: At the Gate to Heaven'

Please note that I don't explain in here how I shade... The tutorial would have grown too long, besides I didn't take screenshots of those single steps. It is basically of how I work from concept to finished product and how I touch them up -plus some unimportant hints and tips that are not really useful lol //SHOT

I'm so glad I found this! I've always been afraid of making backgrounds because I never knew how to do it. But you explain it so well! Thank you!

You know, I was really happy to read you use vector for the lineart. I use it too, but most of the outstanding artists I know draw all the lines by hand; I am glad to see that it's possible to achieve such marvelous result using vector tools.

I love how you pay attention to little details
I enjoy detailed arts

Just one question though
the texture, how do you add it?
Is it possible to turn ordinary photos into texture?

(okay, so it turns out I have 2 questions, lol)

I have a question: How do you color without blending in the lineart?

minnie1234525 In reply to xantoon [2013-02-27 16:04:25 +0000 UTC]

Really? mixed up how?

xantoon In reply to minnie1234525 [2013-03-05 16:00:35 +0000 UTC]

I don't draw the line art. I scan it and then open it in paint tool so it's no point in making layers but I once had found how to do it, I don't remember though T^T

minnie1234525 In reply to xantoon [2013-03-08 17:30:20 +0000 UTC]

oh, you should put the lineart layer on top and set it to multiply
have you tried that yet?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

xantoon In reply to minnie1234525 [2013-05-03 21:23:33 +0000 UTC]

Yeah and anything I draw still gets mixed with the lineart :/
Do I have to redraw the lineart?

This is absolutely the most useful CG tutorial I've ever seen! It's so detailed and I learned a lot, specially from the 'After shading' part. Thank you so much for making this
One question: When you merge all the layers at the end to use the gaussian blur, do you save another copy of your art that isn't merged?

Deamond-89 In reply to Enbi-to-Miruku [2012-07-04 07:28:39 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I merge all the layers and leave the original layers below though. ^^

This is beauty \O/

Oh, so you can only change the lineart colors if you used the lineart tool? Just curious cause I cant seem to change colors of my line arts, cause I use the pen tool in normal layer. OTL

Deamond-89 In reply to jaja-sick-bear [2012-06-17 13:32:45 +0000 UTC]

You can change them. All you need is an extra layer for linearts.
