Well, when it comes to kaiju flicks, the main solution seems to be "use another kaiju". If there's actually a second kaiju handy, that's easy. But if there isn't one, it tends to be a lot easier to build a machine than to breed something organic. A vehicular "kaiju" also tends to have the advantage of being easier to control...
... At least until the aliens get a hold of it and decide to install it with an evil AI >.>.
Meanwhile, when it comes to anime... yeah, mecha do seem to be the elite war-vehicle of choice XD.
