Description Do a book cover or a cover and the back of any book of our choosing. I chose Robert A. Heinlein's Starship Troopers.

Definitely Halo inspired, but not referenced other than subconsciously... love that game!

Love it! One of my favorite novels, and the cover definitely needed a reboot.

But then so do the movies, and they need to stick to the book this time...

I know that this is based off the book not the movie but I have to say this "The only good bug is a dead bug."

Interesting artwork.

But if this is based off the Excellent Book, rather then that horrible movie, then where are the Bug's Weapons?!?

"Dumb Races don't build spaceships."

Indeed where are the Warrior Bug weapons and why is the human not in Mobile Infantry power armour, complete with a mini-arsenal of weapons, jump pack and comm gear?

I wish someone would make the book into a film...but I don't think people are ready to see a Filipino as the main character...

You do realize this book was written in 1959, and Halo: CE came out in 2001, right?

I'm not quite sure what you're getting at? Β Yes, I'm well aware of when the two pieces of fiction were published.

Sorry it just seemed in the description you made it sound like the book was inspired by Halo. No hard feelings

Haha, oh no! I meant I was inspired visually by Halo in the design of the suits, sorry for the confusion.

It's okay. I'm a big fan of both Starship Troopers, and Halo. In fact, I got the book just yesterday, and so far it's awesome

It's a good one! Β Should check out the Halo books too(if you haven't already), they're not on par with Starship Troopers as far writing is concerned, but for a fan of the series they're definitely enjoyable genre fiction.

yeah, I here rumor that some people are going to remake the movies to more closly relate to the books. With power armor, nukes, and all the awesome ground combat featured in the book. I can't wait!

While I love the artwork (very nice, well done, et cetera!) as far as the armor goes, specifically, the book does call for it to be almost gorilla sized, and even gorilla looking, and most of it's weapons are more suit-attached.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DeathMetalDan In reply to Afterskies [2011-12-28 14:32:14 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm... well I can't disagree with you 100% because, though I read the entire book before doing this piece, it's been over a year since. I don't remember them ever saying much about the armor other than it eventually becoming more of a natural extention of the body. And yes the flame thrower and missiles were mounted, but I don't see why they couldn't carry rifles as they're less cumbersome. But, even if you're correct I think I still got closer to the book than those terrible movies haha Thanks for the crit and the compliments though I appreciate them both!

Afterskies In reply to DeathMetalDan [2011-12-28 14:58:39 +0000 UTC]

I recently read over that part; the things to note about it were that it made the user "as big as a gorilla, and roughly the appearance" which the Rico speculates is as to why the use of the insult "apes" was continued through the MI. Along with that, yes, the missiles, hand-flamers, Y-racks, boosters, and immobility of the helmet unit.

Commandox20 [2011-07-30 02:01:08 +0000 UTC]

I rather like the way you've interpreted the armor. People tend to either go the Heinlein route (completely skimp) or interpret the book to mean "Really big bulky things" when it comes to the armor. The face almost reminds me of the Grey Fox ninja from Metal gear solid, and the thrusters are nice and subtle. This also allows them to be used in many environments, and not always closed up to the outside world. (For instance, operating in jungle or desert environments where staying cool is vital.) Really awesome. I may have to print this off and put it on my copy someday.

What font did you use for the title?

Hey thanks for the compliments, I could see where you would get a MGS vibe from it, I've always been a fan of the design in those games! I don't quite remember what font I used, I got it off of dafont.com and then customized it from there to fit the imagine a little better, hope that helps!
