this piece has been a long time coming. about eleven years in fact. i was introduced to the world of rugby union and the ALL BLACKS by my partner, paula, whose a kiwi so naturally a staunch supporter for the new zealand all blacks. love the game. but as much as i love to see the intensity, tackles and tries, first and foremost i love the haka, to sum up in layperson's terms, a maori battle cry/dance ritual performed by the all blacks just after the national anthems and before the game's kick off. it's tradition. and it's the best amalgamation of culture and sports i have ever come across. it's inspiring to say the least.i also do like their uniform. lol. best uniform in sports, i reckon. love the simplicity of it's design. black. easy for the supporters to wear the colours too. heh.
so i thought i'd share this piece with former captain tana umaga leading the haka. no disrespect to richie mccaw's current all blacks line up, but i loved the reign of umaga as captain. followed his 8 year career from no.11 all the way to a successful captaincy campaign and then retirement from international test rugby. ok, so i'm not that good at caricartures, but u get the idea.
so yes, u may say it, i haven't got an ounce of patriotism in my body. i'm a malaysian born australian, who would rather live in united kingdom but supports new zealand sports. ahh diversity. love it.

its terrifying seeing a team get so intense doing that before a match. One of the teams I played in college did that and they were all huge.

I guess that makes you and me both, I stumbled upon a video of the All Blacks doing the Haka and I fell in love with the team and Rugby from that moment. I was lucky enough to have a member of my family that loved rugby as much as I did(my little bro) and he taught me how to play the beautiful sport of rugby!!!! BTW: I'm not from New Zealand(actually I'm from West Africa) but I still love the country.

Nice bro. nothing else need be done to it! I was thinkin bout doin somethin like this. Ive done a Tana pic but not an ab's one or the haka. Yeah Tana was da man but he only lead the Haka a couple times. His voice is a bit high and hes Samoan but who cares cause hes Tana and NZ is a multicultured paradise. Ive played rugby with Tana heaps. He plays for my club team-Petone. Its pretty sweet being a fullback and getting set up by the best in the biz.The Ab's are just too good at the moment just hope they can carry it on to the world cup next year. Awesome bro!

yah, believe it or not, i was wondering when he would take the reign at leading the haka being samoan or not. i thought it was only a matter of time and sure enough. but when they did the new haka against south africa...maaan, that blew me away. i remember i was sitting at the pub with another kiwi. it was an early morning match as we were watching it in london. and there was only two of us supporters. lol. but when the new haka started, we both looked at each other and went, 'wtf?' then 'wwwwiiiiicked'.
