Description "We'll inform you when the game is restocked. Thank you.” you smiled at the man who had walked into the store, inwardly wincing at your awkwardness, if that was even a word.

It really sold out fast, you thought, glancing over at its shelf as the man pushed open the door.

The bells on the door chimed again.

“Welcome! If you’re here for the game that was out today, we’re out of-“ You paused halfway into your now automated greeting when you saw that the person walking into the store was a familiar pudding head. Every person that visited the store today had asked about the same game, and you thought that you should inform everyone about the game being out of stock to avoid unnecessary interactions with customers.

“I thought that you’d be here first thing in the morning because you were so excited about the release, Kenma,” you said, addressing him.

“We had volleyball practice in the morning.” He muttered, eyes already darting around the store to locate the game that he had been so excited about.

"My shift will be over in a few, so we can-" You started to say.

"Is it sold out?" Kenma stopped in front of the empty shelf that had been hosting copies of the game in the morning.

You winced. You wanted to give it to him tomorrow, but if he walks out of this store to buy it from another one...

"It'll probably be out of stock as well, but I'll go to the other game store down the street to make sure..." he began to push open the door.

One would think he cared more about the game than his girlfriend. You sighed, deciding that you had no choice but to give it to him right then.

"Kenma," you called, slipping out from behind the counter.

"Here. It's an early birthday present." You held out the bag that you had been planning to give him later. You had grabbed a copy of the game as soon as you walked into the store at the start of your shift, knowing that the game would be out of stock really quick.

You wanted to get something that Kenma really wanted for his birthday. He hadn't really seemed interested in the other games you had gotten him for his previous birthdays, so he told you not to buy anything for him this year.

But it kind of made you feel bad, him being you boyfriend and all. You found out that the sequel of the game he played all the time was coming out the day before his birthday.

So this year, you bought a game that you were sure he'd like. It would have been better if you could give it to him tomorrow, but it seems like you have no choice but to give it to him now.

You grinned at Kenma as he took the bag from your hands and peeped in. That grin grew wider when he broke into one of his rare smiles.

"T-thank you. I thought I told you you didn’t have to get anything for me.”

You waved it off, just as a small child and his mother pushed open the door.

By the time you finished attending to them, it was already the end of your shift, but your co-worker hadn't arrived yet. You looked up to see Kenma still walking around the store, waiting for you.

"You can go home first, you know," you told him. "I know you want to play that game."

He looked up at you, his medallion gaze meeting your [e/c] one, then flickering away. “I’ll wait for you.”

Your chest felt incredibly warm as you stretched up to peck his cheek. “Thank you… I should be able to leave any minute now.”

When you were finally able to leave work, you made your way to Kenma’s house, your only plan to spend the rest of the day at his house, as per his request.

You sighed as Kenma set up the game on the television, thinking that you'd be watching him play the entire time.

“It’s multiplayer,” Kenma suddenly spoke up.

“What?”

“The game. It’s multiplayer,” He showed you the back of the game cartridge, pointing out the multiplayer function.

“You want me to play with you?” You asked, surprised.

He cocked his head at you, as if asking ‘Why not?’, before tossing me a controller.

You caught it easily, sitting beside him on the couch, resting your head on his shoulder. “Well, if you don’t mind having a lousy player like me on your team… I’ll join you.”

“That’s all I want and need.” Kenma said in a soft voice, and you looked up to see him biting his lip as he configured the game controls, cheeks just the slightest bit pink.

A small smile danced across your lips. “I’ll try my best not to make us lose.”

.

.

[Extended end]
“I’m sorry!” You sunk in my seat as ‘Game Over’ appeared on the screen again. “I think I should have used my ability just now.”

Kenma threw his head back in frustration, lying against the back of the couch, half dead.

"One more time..." You said, preparing myself for another game.

Kenma craned his head back to look at the clock on the wall.

"It's already 11... I should walk you home."

"It's the last level! Let's beat this, and then I'll go home," You bit my lip. I'm addicted to this game now, aren't I? You thought to yourself.

"We've been replaying this level for almost two hours now," Kenma told you, but still restarted the game.

You failed again. You had played continuously for seven hours, and during the last replay, Kenma managed to find a comfortable position, lying on the couch with his head on your lap.

You sighed as you combed my fingers through the blond strands.

Kenma yawned. "We can finish this another day. You should go home."

"..."

"..."

"Please."

Flaxen eyes peered up at you, and he started to sit up.

"It's late. You're going home, [Name]” he repeated.

"One more game..." You pleaded.

"We can continue tomorrow."

Before you could insist to play another game, he leaned in and pressed his lips against yours for a brief moment, effectively cutting you off.

"Just go home, okay?" He said, the warmth of his breath chasing away any objections you had.

You blinked once, too surprised to react in any other way. "Okay."

His lips morphed into a relieved smile.

"Good."

Kenma dumped your bag in your lap and started showing you the way out.

"Wait, did you just kiss me?"

He glanced back at you with his normal stoic expression, but you caught traces of amusement lingering in those golden hues.

You reached your doorstep just as the clock read 00:00, marking the start of October 16. You sidled up to Kenma, looping your arms around his neck. You had to tiptoe in order to brush your lips across his.

"Happy birthday, Kenma."
