As promised, here's the first batch of Peacox Adoptables!
These guys are based off pies, since Thanksgiving is next week, and our starting course are Apple Pie and Pumpkin Pie.

So I've gone through the same w/ my species, ^^ I'm here to give you some tips out of the kindness of my heart~!
-Since it's your first time, try adding most of your auctions over 50 groups, it's annoying as heck but it helps!
-More tags! Sometimes tagging into the most pop. species tags helps ((even though it's cheating lol))
-Advertise on,"Looking for closed species" journals! Those help A LOT.
-Try submitting into groups that most popular species submit into. I thought it didn't work at first, but I saw familiar people joining my group, it was
crazy!
-Try starting lower on auction prices. As painful as it sounds, it works ^^

$5 USD is really as low as I can go, because that's already severely underpriced, given the amount of time I put into my art. It's also how I make my living.

Yeah, the underpriced thing is something we all have to go through. I had to start my auctions at $1, but now I'm heading to $5. And trust me it's hard to do that, I was so salty when someone offered me that tip because I put so much work into them, but then it worked, and I kept increasing everyday~^^ It's a process~

I don't think you understand.
I'm a professional. Art is how I make my living. The going rate for my time is $10 an hour, and my commissions are based on this.
There's a problem in the art community of people, especially young people, undervaluing their art, and I refuse to add to that problem. Artists deserve to be paid for their time, and for their skill. If pricing my art fairly (and it's already severely underpriced), means it takes my work longer to sell? I'm okay with that. If more artists got what they deserved, people wouldn't have to price art that takes them hours to create at $1. It's an insult, especially to a professional.
I understand that it's a process. You're talking to someone who's spent years building up a following on Tumblr, but just because it's a process doesn't mean that I need to undervalue my work. My prices are more than reasonable for the decades I've spent honing my skills.

I understand you do this for a living, and I didn't mean for you to. start at $1, I was referring to myself as a process. I was helping you out because I saw you didn't make as much, and no one had bidded yet. I understand that you weren't trying to be rude, and I'm sorry if I came across as harsh (it wasn't my intention), but please understand that when you're trying to make a living off your art, being told your prices are too expensive is a slap in the face, especially when they're already bare bones cheap. My commission prices for pieces of this quality is the AB price, and since my species is so new the starting bid is only $5 USD, which will likely be the final sale price. That's $20 of loss on my end, which is why that's as low as my price can go.
I'm not angry at you, I promise! Just please bear in mind that all artists, yourself included, deserve to be paid for the time and effort they've spent working on a piece. Undervaluing your art not only hurts yourself, but the entire community as a whole.

ahh i hope you're not upset!! kila's upset at the idea, not at you, that's for sure ;;
there's this really awful never-ending cycle with the deviantart adoptable community and i'm sure you've seen it. a lot of the time artists don't quite fully understand how much their own time and effort is worth, or they genuinely believe their art isn't worth much, so they underprice their work.
because so many artists underprice their work, this sets the bar for what x amount of effort is worth. then more artists believe their art isn't worth quite as much, and the price of art keeps going down because that's what the buyers expect to pay. then you get people who are trying to pay bills and rent and college tuition getting offers of 8 points, which is less than a dime when converted to cash.
there are a few special standouts (like witchpaws who has gotten auctions for her species up to $1000+) but they're very far and few between, not many people are willing to pay $50+ for adopts when something of similar qualities has been underpriced all the way down to $1. by underpricing and suggesting others underprice only adds to the problem. underpricing means for double, triple, sometimes even quadruple the work for the artist to get the same amount of money they wanted to earn with one adopt. we can help this by discouraging those who nit pick prices instead of nit picking the artists themselves !!Β
