This then and now drawing is so succinct. My thoughts keep returning to it; the sheer heartiness of the Dwarf.

I love this. Feel the same way; had an emo phase where anything dark and edgy was the best and elves are full of that shitty dark angst and alpha-race attitude that teens love. Now its Dwarf all the way.

Which is why Elves are so much more popular in fantasy; they dont want a reality, people want to be amazing and beautiful and beloved and popular. Which is such a shame

This is true to me in Role-playing alone. I may have originally thought I'd love to be an elf, but it's so much fun to play a hearty happy character rather than a stiff and formal one. (Not that there can't be hearty, happy elves, but it just doesn't fit their usual culture norms)
