Description Just finished my new dress :3 Since I rearranged my living room, the kitchen is now the place for taking photos :'D
The stripes really were a challenge. I really had to pay attention to the pattern, and how they come together at the seams and blabla.. took a lot of planning-time, but it made fun :3 The top took most of the time. It's made of various layers.
I thought about putting a big side-ribbon on the front - out of the cream-gold fabric. But after finishing it, I just thought it would be too much. So I was able to finish it today :3
I really like how it came out, because it was a big experiment.. and now I can't even wear it >3< Need to buy some matching cream-white shoes and a blouse first.. I only have pure white stuff OTL
But nevermind.. I hope you like it too AND FOR SURE it has a pocket in the side-seam

Hi ! Your dress is so wonderful !

May I ask you your pattern ? I need one to realize a dress like the Alice and The Pirates Kuranosuke Stripes, for the carnival of my school, in December.Β

If you don't want to share your pattern, I can understand, it's your work, it's take you time to realize the pattern for your dress.Β

I just want to repeat that it's a incredible dress that you did !

Hey you
I don't have an exact pattern for this, nor I have anything digitally. I have a base I drafted out of a normal high-waisted-dress-pattern I bought in a haberdashery years ago. I adapted it to my body shape and alter it a little for every dress I make, but on the dress itself - freestyle-like you know Everything like ruffles is just added to the base.
For the skirt-part I can recommend the easiest way: Just take a big retangle, that's how I process fabric most if the time, if it has a pattern. Especially for stripes!
I really recommend to make a visit at your local haberdashery or whereever else notions are sold. Look for a dress in a 50s-style, then nothing can go wrong They only cost like 5-10€ and last a lifetime!

this is absolutely beautiful! I really dream of making a lolita dress of my own, since I don't have near enough money for a real one. Do you have any tips for drafting your own pattern? I was thinking for the skirt a gathered circle skirt maybe? But I'm not sure about the rest o

Heyhey I'm sry for the late reply. University is keeping me busy for weeks now ><
If you have anything lolita-like in your closet, just measure everything out, draw it on big piece of paper and try it out It will get better from time to time. Skirts are quite easy. I also started with gathered-circle-stuff. But for fabric with patterns, I just dont like it. So my skirt parts are big, fat retangles most of the time
But.. when I started sewing, I also bought some patterns. You get stuff like that for like 10-20 USD in shopping mals or stuff, whereever you can buy notions. I could only recommend a german brand called "burda". I don't know if they sell anything in the US Well, I didn't find anything, that could be called "lolita", but just something that looked like a good base for every dress. A normal high-waisted jumperskirt. Especially if you never ever drafted a pattern before, buying one, trying out and altering it would be the best. That's how I learned it, you just get a feeling for it
About the upper part of the skirt.. well. I guess most people start with a normal elastic waist band. Then you just sew a tunnel and pull an elastic band trough it. Guess most people do that, to avoid sewing a zipper in the skirt Pretty tricky stuff the first few times.. I also tried to avoid them back then For everything else, but the tunnel-and-elastic-band-stuff, I also recommend to buy a pattern or take a high waist skirt out of your closet. I drafted my pattern, for this part of the skirt, out of lolita-skirt I already had. This part can get a little tricky
Now I feel like I couldn't help at all XD Just raped grammer with this novel, haha..

Do you sell desses that you make?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Dejik0 In reply to WoodLily [2013-05-20 20:10:49 +0000 UTC]

I don't take commissions for whole dresses/skirts, because I have barely time to sew for myself - and I really love wearing my own designs But I sell stuff, that doesn't fit my wardrobe anymore, because of colour preferences and stuff. So it could be, that I never wore the piece I am selling, so it's brandnew

Mh, hard to say. Depends on many factors like the design, material, how many mistakes you make and how busy life is at the moment. I guess, altogether, a dress takes me 3-5 days, sewing from morning till afternoon. And lots of backpain
