i must agree as some have said, that was an exceptionally harsh thing to say to trixie and a very harsh thing to think about the fine people of ponyville

Either Twilight is lying for mysterious reasons, she's horribly misjudged everyone in ponyville, or you are misrepresenting the entire town, and even the character of ponykind, for the sake of making Twilight Sparkle seem charitable and compassionate by comparison.
I don't care how much they vilify her (which, if you remember the episode, is not by much), they would not leave her to die. They would not leave Gilda to die. It is unlikely that they would leave Gilda or a diamond dog to die of hypothermia. Even IF you assume that MOST ponyvillians would say "screw her, she's boastful and she convinced the local stupid-heads to bring destruction on our heads. Let her die", you still have to recognize that Fluttershy would bring her in and apologize for not knowing what type of marshmallows she wants in her cocoa, or Pinkie Pie would warm her up with a "Congratulations on not needing to get your limbs amputated from frostbite!" party.
