I'm one of those people who have a foot in both the digital and traditional camps - I really like both areas for different reasons.
Your pencil work is first rate - it would be a shame to let skills like that slide...
Have you ever had a go at oils? I'm still getting into them - I'm more used to Acrylics, which they behave nothing like.
It's a learning process, but these challenges are a great learning experience.
Sometimes it's good to just get the crayons, pens and pencils out somtimes y'know?

nahh - a big old bit of cloth to cover the area to be worked in, some basic student artboard, turpintine, brushes and paints...

I usually make the outline of the head and then make the eyes, nose, mouth, etc.
