He was docile because I was probably the first human he had ever seen and had no reason to fear me yet. I probably could have kept him, but don't have the resources to take care of him properly

Yeah, we figured that there was no more room and he just kind of fell out of the nest. I tried to find his parents but I couldn't. So I gave him to a wildlife sanctuary

Keep him away from Australia, there are orb weavers there that are so big they routinely catch birds that size and EAT them!
