Description The overworld map for Achaea, Dreams of Divine Lands . It was created as a full-size overlay of the wilderness and reduced to 25%. I'll be updating this map constantly as new areas are introduced.

Thanks! I actually did this map about six years ago, and I've only been tweaking the original formula since then. The question marks are one of the many carryovers. It may be time for a reboot...

The Erisian Pyramid went poof I believe?

DelphinusW In reply to Zhelk [2012-08-30 20:09:15 +0000 UTC]

The ruins are still there, which is why I used the ruins icon. In fact, only now does it survey as "the Erisian Pyramid," and only now has it stopped hopping around to where it's mappable.

I've always loved this map. This thing is essential when using the wilderness, I've used it all the time. Now I just stare at it and wonder how (in terms of geology, shifting plates, etc) Sapience was really formed.

Have I favourited this? I have to. I am playing a roguelike game in a string of roguelike games I was playing. (Dwarf Fortress, very Civilisation crossed with Dungeon Keeper, everyone should play. [link] and the wiki to guide through -everything- [link] )

Remembering the ASCII wilderness of Achaea and thinking about the conversion this would require. Damn! Too awesome for words.

You're missing the entrance into Manara

DelphinusW In reply to Lereas [2007-11-18 09:32:47 +0000 UTC]

The underground things are a tossup to me. I was going to label Manara's location, but then I figured I'd have to stack Nuskuwe beneath that (and do something similar with Blackrock and Delmarin).

Lereas In reply to DelphinusW [2007-11-19 16:46:04 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I suppose I assumed that since you had Azdun you'd have that, but the stacking thing would probably indeed be a pain.

You should point it out to them, shouldn't be to hard to fix things in the wilderness after all, is kind of a bug

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DelphinusW In reply to Zhelk [2006-08-11 22:09:42 +0000 UTC]

I've pointed a lot of wilderness errors out before, but they don't really consider the wilderness top priority.

Well done, one question though, isn't Darkenwood west of Bitterflow, at least that is the impression I get outside the wilderness, pretty sure you more or less have to cross it to get there

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DelphinusW In reply to Zhelk [2006-08-10 06:00:56 +0000 UTC]

Mmhm. You're correct in that you have to cross the Bitterflow to get to the Darkenwood. This map is modeled after the wilderness map, which does have Darkenwood (in the centre of the Northreach) but DOESN'T have the Bitterflow.

Whoever built Darkenwood was an idiot. My reasoning is this: The westernmost extent of Northreach has a secret exit west to the Darkenwood, right? It also has a wilderness exit. And if you enter the wilderness there, you're on the west end of the forest with about ten feet of coastline separating you from the ocean to the west. All they did was tack the Darkenwood half-assedly onto the western side of the Northreach, only to physically place it inexplicably within its centre.

There are other wilderness exit things, but this is just the most obvious. My point is, I would've had to make the Bitterflow a LOT longer and fiddle with its position a LOT more otherwise. Believe me, I asked every resource attributed to the gods that I could imagine before I finally decided "Fuck it" and placed it there.

And then I showed the map to Maya, and the Bitterflow is the only thing she raised her eyebrow over. Go figure. XD

So much nicer to see a proper wilderness map instead of the very disproportionate maps of the world that I have attempted to draw by hand.

Kudos.

Wow, that's awesome

Now, being the explorer fiend you are, could you please explain to me why one can go from Lake Vundamere through the Savannah into the desert without ever crossing the river? It contradicts every map I've ever seen yet it's possible.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DelphinusW In reply to Alaiea [2006-04-25 08:25:35 +0000 UTC]

The older areas were... far from consistent in how they were built. You're also able to just keep crossing the road west in one place without ever going east. The Savannah in particular is the bane of many a cartographer. Heh, you should see Darkenwood...

Well done! This is an excellent representation - I'm curious, are the merfolk the only people who call the eastern seas the "Eusian Seas" and where are the Northern Seas that Borak supposed watches over? Would those be beyond the barrier?

Anyway, very well done!

Pretty! I especially like the relative sizes of the Ithmias and Hashan.

Will this be winning Artisinals next month?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DelphinusW In reply to Wivylma [2006-04-25 02:19:24 +0000 UTC]

Believe it or not, all the sizes are to scale. (Well, except for the sizes of the individual buildings.) This is a direct prettified overlay of the wilderness map, reduced by 25%, so Hashan really is that size in comparison to the Ithmias.

But to answer your question, I can't submit it. The Artisanal entry size limit is 500 kb.
