Grinning, Evil-lyn summoned magical power to her, pointed her right hand, and fired energy beams from the first and ring fingers. The beams converged on her target but fell short.

Purple hair raised her left hand and projected a runic shield wall a little larger in diameter than her hand. Evil-lyn's beams struck the shield, flaring brightly. The gem set in the woven cap of her staff exploded to life. Purple Hair did not simply block the witch's attack; she demonstrated another ability only the most skilled magic-users learned to utilize. Evil-lyn frowned when she could not disengage her attack. She felt the power continuing to flow into her and out through the beams of energy. Suddenly, she realized what was happening. Her opponent was siphoning the magical energy from her! It wouldn't take long for her strength to be depleted and she would be at the woman's mercy.

Evil-lyn tried desperately to kill the beams, but Purple Hair had hijacked the flow. A tremor a fear shivered down Evil-lyn's spine. Her strength was seconds from running out and there was nothing she could do to stop it!
