Others' first impression of Kou is usually that of a calm and sophisticated young man. Kou values manners and traditions, and will generally respond in a friendly manner if he is greeted with good manners alike.

He usually has a routine and is very punctual on his own schedules. He plans things out before he does them, and will go into panic mode if something doesn't go as he expected. It's usually the same with his belongings, his residence and his appearance. He cares about appearance and order, and will try to appear as presentable as possible.

May pass out of embarrassment and shock if someone catches him in his pajamas and messy bedhair.

When he is faced with something that interests him, Kou will show a child-like enthusiasm, although he will usually hide this if he just met you. Kou loves to learn new things and therefore will still go out of his way to understand something.

While he is usually friendly and easy to greet, it may be slightly harder for him to talk about anything other than a short greeting when you just met him.

As one gets closer to him, he will start to be more open and honest with them. He ask them questions, show them things, drag them to places, may follow them everywhere when he can and attempt to impress them, although he will still refrain from relying on them.

History
Koukomaru was an adopted family of Mikoto, a nekomata formerly residing in the mountains of Inari shrine in Kyoto, and was given another name to assume by the priests when the nekomata decided to raise him away from the malicious spirits in the mountain. The nekomata took care of the priests' and shrine visitors' horses as his job.

Kou was raised surrounded by horses and the priests of the shrine, although he was not very well accepted because he was adopted by a "monster".

In spite against the other's claims on his guardian, he went into the mountains alone at night to prove that the mountains are not filled with these "monsters" and that even a child like him would return safely. He ended up almost killed by hunters in his fox form if it wasn't for the nekomata saving him, while accidentally killing the hunters and animals near the area by destroying a good part of the mountain.

The townspeople were not exactly happy about it and the priests had no choice but to agree to seal the nekomata to calm the riot and panic, much to Kou's dismay.

Kou continued Mikoto's job for a while before deciding that he wanted to leave the place, to find somewhere more welcoming, in hopes that he could have Mikoto live with him when the seal comes undone.

He said his goodbyes and left Kyoto when he reached 20 on a horse presented to him by one of the priests, and had been travelling on him until he reached Mizuyama by coincidence.

Impressed and touched by the friendliness of the residents, as well as the variety of communities and the beautiful environment, he decided to settle down for now.

-He refers to newly acquaintanced individuals with -dono honorifics, and may call them with -han if they're close enough.
-He dreams to live long enough to become an actual fox youkai.
-His horse's name is Akage. Because of it's reddish-brown coat.
