Mikoto is a very quiet child who is also not very great at expressing his feelings with words, facial expressions or gestures. It does not help that he has a rather stoic and cocky expression, combined with his fearless personality. He's usually avoided by other local kids, or have others pick fights at him, even though he only wishes to have friends. Well, maybe only a few of them, as he dislike being in a huge group of people.

Although he may seem quiet and demure, Mikoto is as other children are, likes to run all day and play here and there. He likes to venture through areas and find or make places for him to hide, plays strange games and refuses to nap or sleep until he's exhausted.

While he usually refrains from voicing his thoughts to strangers, he does not hold back when he spells out what is in his mind, although he can be very crude due to his limited vocabulary. He will answer bluntly if asked, without hesitating.

He's very awkward at expressing his own feelings (and does not realize it). It may take some time for him to open up to you, and he shows concern and affection in his very own way (such as bringing you flowers, fish... bugs and dead mice, perhaps.)

History

Mikoto had been a Nekomata, living deep in the Inari mountains along with the priests of the shrine.
He saved a baby fox, whom he later named Kou, whose parents were killed by evil spirits in the mountain. Considering the dangers of the mountain for a little child, he adopted Kou and decided to live with the other residents at mountain foot, but everyone other than the priests and Kou disliked him because he was not one of them.

Kou disappeared one night into the mountains, doing a test of courage in an attempt to prove that Mikoto was not a monster to the other children. This failed, however, as he was almost killed by unknowing hunters, but Mikoto saved him in time, although not without sacrifices.

Mikoto's accident angered the townspeople and he was ordered to be sealed. He agreed to it sincerely, accepting his responsibility for the loss he had caused.

After a decade and so, Kou came back from Mizuyama on a Shichi-Go-San to Kyoto, Fushimi. With the money he had earned, he requested for Mikoto's seal to be released.
The priests gladly wished to grant Kou's request, but if this matter were to be known by the townspeople, chaos might happen due to fear of unknown powers.

Therefore, the seal-removing ritual was done in discreet, and while his soul would be reborn into that of a child, his spiritual powers and memories of his previous life will remain sealed forever deep within the mountains. He will grow up never gaining any sort of magic, nor ever regain his memories again.

Kou agreed to this and decided to take Mikoto in and raise him in Mizuyama, to fulfill his promise to bring Mikoto and live together a peaceful place with much less prejudice.

Mikoto's memories were wiped out, but he felt familiar surrounded by the shrine residents, especially Kou even though he had no explanation to this situation.

After a few days staying together and adapting to a new life, Mikoto decided to follow Kou back to Mizuyama without much protest, and starts living with Kou in his small hut.

This is mentioned in his bio but here once again;
-He has no memory of his life before he was unsealed, and will not regain it in the future as his powers as a youkai are already lost.

-He retains half of his general knowledge in his previous life (he knows a little about the world, but everything seems different), but has the intelligence of a seven-year-old and does not recollect anyone in his previous memory.

-Is a 7 y.o brat and will act 7 y.o

-Mikoto admires kind samurais and ronins, a new admiration he gained when he moved into Mizuyama. He sometimes plays pretend as guards by swinging twigs when no one is looking.

-Kou still refers to him as "Mikoto-sama" out of habit. This confuses him, but he does not ask.

Relationship:

Kou: Previously his adoptive child, but now it's the other way around. Kou acts very protective around Mikoto and may act like a naggy mother around him. Although Mikoto appreciates his feelings, sometimes it may frustate the stubborn boy. He does not understand why Kou is attached to him, but lets him be anyways.
