Journal Entry:
Ecru and I parted ways but before doing so, she had told me that should I ever return to the area, that I would be welcomed to visit her and her tribe. She also told me that she was quite known among the nomadic tribes and I need only mention her name to them should I ever have the need to find her. I thanked her and soon departed to follow her instructions on how to get to the seaport city named Portavasai, where I would begin my travel to the continent of Anima.
I joined a small caravan of merchant travelers, recommended by Ecru, that were also heading to Portavasai. The head merchant immediately allowed me into his caravan upon my mentioning of Ecru. It seemed that Ecru had once saved their caravan from a grimm attack and were gratefully indebted to Ecru.
The journey to Portavasai took close to two weeks before the sight of the sea finally came into view. It was quite a pleasant change of view as we traveled close to the seaside. As we were passing by, I noticed what appeared to be a mountain that looked as if it had been hewn from solid white marble. I pointed it out to the caravan leader who rode beside me. He took one look at it and then handed me a telescope from his belt. I was confused at first but he only motioned towards the mountain. Perplexed, I extended the telescope and pointed it at the mountain. It was then that I realized my mistake. For what I saw was not a mountain. What I saw in the distance was a grimm of colossal size. It appeared to resemble a giant turtle but with six and a very long tail. A forest had actually started growing around it as well as the shell on its back. I was shocked by the caravan leader’s seemingly unfazed reaction. When I inquired him about it he started to tell me of the tale behind the grimm.
It appeared that many many years ago, the grimm which had come to be known as Terratoise for its mountain-like appearance rose from the sea and laid siege to a seaside kingdom. With every step it took, the earth shook and the quakes started to bring down the walls and towers of the seaside kingdom. It appeared that they would all perish had it not been for the interference of three girls. The girls were the princesses of the kingdom and they had within them an extraordinarily powerful semblance. The three sisters used their combined semblances to chant and lull the advancing grimm to a deep slumber. The doom was averted, but not without a cost. The sisters were never again seen. There were many rumours regarding their fate. Some said that when they exhausted the power of their semblance they themselves also fell into a deep sleep, encased in a crystal chrysalis atop the sleeping grimm. The people of the seaside kingdom mourned the loss of the brave sisters. The damage to the kingdom was irreparable and as a result, the people decided move away and establish a new settlement. That settlement would come to be known as Portovasai, the very place where me and the caravan where headed to.
After some time of digesting the tale I just heard, I asked if the tale of the sisters being encased in crystal was confirmed and if not, then why no one decided to check. The caravan leader simply shrugged and said, “No. And it’s for the very same reason why no one would dare to attack that grimm. If that thing wakes up, we can only imagine what it could do, especially since it has grown throughout the ages that it spent sleeping.”
That thought alone sent chills down my spine as I took one last look at the sleeping beast, wondering if one day, it would wake again. And when that day comes, who would stand against it?
