Description
The clouded leopard (Neofelis nebulosa) is a medium-sized wild cat. They occur from the Himalayan foothills throughout mainland South-Eastern Asia. Tropical forests are their main habitat. They take a variety of aboreal and terrestrial vertebrates such as monkeys, small deer, and pheasants. Clouded leopards are among the best climbers in the cat family, known to climb down trees headfirst and hang from branches with their back paws. Sadly, they are a Vulnerable species, with less than 10,000 remaining in the wild. Deforestation and poaching for the illegal wildlife trade are the main threats.
