Description
Calus is a little salty about having to get help getting out of this predicament. And having a mare witness it no less.
Taryn isn't too happy about having to help his little spoiled butt either.
Also Calus's hair is getting longer since he should be an adult soon, so I'm excited for that chapter in his life.
It's gonna be chaotic and I don't know how Bash is going to handle it. owo
ALSO, Taryn is in the middle of a name change, so her ref still says "Fern" Which is what her name was going to be, until I discovered that she was a fiery little mare who needed an equally firey name. xD
So I wrote it using Taryn since I didn't wanna come back and change it later when it goes through lol
tldr; Calus thinks he knows things, doesn't realize where they are and he falls through some ice. Bash goes in search for a stick to help him out with and finds a mare. She comes to help get Calus out of the water. Bash invites her to join the herd.

I Don't Need Your Help
"Are you sure you know where you're going?" Bash questioned, narrowing his eyes at the younger horse.
"Of course I do." Calus commented, snorting. "I'm not lost."
Bash didn't believe a word of that, especially when the young stud started walking across a frozen lake. Bash stopped on the bank and snorted at him.
"You're leading over water. This is too dangerous to cross." Bash said, pawing at the ground. "We should go around."
Calus rolled his eyes and turned back to face the stallion. He felt chaffed at being scolded and having his leading questioned. Bash had been quick to comment on everything he thought was wrong and it was anooying the colt to no end.
"I think I know better than some outlander that decided to wander into the valley." Calus sneered. "I was born here. I know where I'm going, and we're going over the ice."
Bash didn't move, feeling the tension in the air from the stud, and only watched to see what he would do. He knew that Calus was getting older, they'd been traveling together for almost a month now, and with his age and firey temper, Bash expected some sort of fight between them.
"What, are you scared?" Calus asked, before bursting out laughing. "Wow, some lead stallion you'll ever make. What mare is gonna wanna be with a stallion who's afraid of ice."
Bash's ears flicked back in annoyance and he tossed his head, walking along the bank.
"I will not put myself in danger. You can cross if you want, but I'm going around." Bash said, moving around the edge of the lake.
Calus continued his pace across the water, and when he was a few lengths out, he called out to the stallion.
"Oh look how dangerous." Calus said, feining fear as he started to play around on the ice, pretending to slip. "It's so scary!"
Bash pointedly ignored the colt at first, until the faint cracking of ice reached his ears. He stopped on a dime and whirled to face the colt.
"Calus get off the ice now." He ordered.
Calus ceased his playing and mocking, and flattened his ears.
"Don't tell me what do to. You are not my leader." The colt snapped at him, stomping the ground.
Too late Calus realized why Bash was ordering him off the ice, and he felt his back end fall through the ice. He neighed in surprise from both the cold water, and the fall. His front legs scrabbled across the top of the ice to keep himself from sliding all the way in. His thrashing made the hole he'd fallen in bigger, but Calus was able to halt his falling. Bash paced the edge of the ice and snorted with anxeity.
"Hold on Calus! I'll find something to help you." Bash called out, frantically searching the treeline and banks for a long enough branch.
"Oh, nah, I thought I'd just let go and go for a swim." Calus sarcastically sneered.
Bash ignored the comment and darted off towards the treeline. He needed something sturdy enough to not break, yet light enough for him to drag back.
Thankfully, he'd found one quicker than he was expecting, and as he reached down to grab it, movement in his peripherals caught his attention. It took his eyes a moment to pick out the movement, as the horse blended in very well with the white show and dark points in the forest. At first he thought it was another stallion, but as his eyes adjusting, finding the form of the horse, he realized that it was a female. His ears tipped forwards as he lifted his head up in surprise. Quickly, he looked around, wondering if her lead stallion was nearby. The last thing he needed was a fight at this moment. The mare didn't speak, and he didn't either. They quietly watched one another, and Bash eventually slowly lowered his head back down to the ground.
"I'm not here to hurt you or offend your stallion, wherever he is." Bash said, "I'm just going to take this and be on my way."
"That's too heavy for you to drag by yourself." The mare piped up.
Bash stopped, mid tug on the small log.
"Would you mind helping then? I need to get my friend out of the ice." Bash said, "It's urgent."
The mare seemed hesitant and uncertain, but ultimately stepped forwards and into better view. Bash noted that the mare looked like she'd seen better days. Her matted mane and tail told him that she probably was alone. Had she been in a herd, he was sure the other members would have helped groom her to prevent such matting. However, now was not the time to worry about that. The mare walked up to the other side of the log and together they were able to lift it and take it back to the lake.
Calus felt fatigue setting in to his front legs, and his back had almost lost complete feeling. Thankfully he'd gotten his upper half up onto the ice, so he didn't have to strain as much, but he knew that he if tried to get up the ice would crack again. However, he soon saw Bash returning, with a long log carried between him and... another horse? From the distance, Calus was shocked with how easily the stallion convinced another stallion to help him. Bash was too naieve, and it would eventually bite him in the rear. As the two stallions got closer Calus realized, with horror, that it was a mare that was helping him. How dare he bring a mare to see him in such a pathetic state! Probably to rub it in. Calus flattened his ears as they approached.
"Why did you bring a MARE to help? They're useless when it comes to things like this." Calus chastised. "Did you even think? What's she gonna do, stand there and look pretty while watching me die?"
Bash and the mare had made their way slowly across the ice, and eventually set the log down.
"Do you-" Bash started to scold the young stallion but was quickly cut off by the mare.
"How dare you speak to me like that." The mare snapped. "If you would prefer to die than recieve help, then by all means, have fun freezing to death."
She flattened her ears and barred her teeth at him before turning tail and moving back to the safety of the bank.
Bash watched her go, feeling a slight relief when she stopped on the banks, seeming to wait for them. Turning his head back to the colt, he glared at him, to which Calus pointedly ignored.
"Are you going to get me out of here or not?" Calus asked irritated.
"Obviously, but you owe that mare an apology or your rear would be in the water for much longer." Bash said, nudging the log towards Calus.
The younger horse took one end in his mouth, and Bash took the other and slowly started pulling back, sliding Calus out of the water and onto safer ice.
Once Bash knew that the colt was out of danger, he turned and went back to the mare, leaving Calus to his own devices. Her ears tipped forwards as he approached.
"He's a real charmer." She commented drily.
Bash looked back at the colt, who'd finally gotten to his feet and was moving to the banks now.
"He's been through a lot, from what I've gathered." Bash said, attempted to explain his behaviour.
"I'd sure hate to see how he treats his mares." She commented.
Bash didn't say anything to that, knowing that Calus did have a bad temper, and he couldn't say for sure that he wouldn't attack a mare. Instead, he decided to change the subject.
"What happened to your herd?" He asked.
The mare's head lowered, and she ignored his question. Bash knew better than to comment on it, and instead changed the subject for her.
"Would you care to stick with us for now? It's not safe to be on your own, as you probably already know." Bash offered.
The mare took a moment, thinking over his offer. While she wasn't thrilled about the idea of being around the ignorant younger stallion, something about this one made her feel at ease. Something she'd not felt for quite some time.
"Okay." She agreed." I would like to stay with you."
Bash smiled at her.
"I'm Sebastian, but everyone calls me Bash." He said.
"What a brutish name for a caring stallion." She commented quietly. "You can call me Taryn."
Bash nodded, then indicated towards the younger stallion. "That's Calus."
"I would say it's a pleasure to meet him, but I don't think that it is." She commented.
Bash chuckled and shook his head, glad the colt wasn't close enough to hear that.
