Taste of Freedom
Molly shook her short mane as she made her way away from her herd. She was old enough now, that it was acceptable for her to go in search of her own stallion; to find a home. Granted, she could have stayed with her mother and family, but she felt a tug in her soul and knew that leaving was the right choice. While her and Sebastian had walked, they talked and shared insight on one another. At the time, Bash had spoken of awaiting the arrival of his first foal, and how excited and scared he was. Molly consoled him on it, and shared about her time growing up. The thought of leaving her herd, and joining his hadn't crossed her mind until he had stopped and given her the beautiful blue bellflower. In her head, she daydreamed of what might happen when he sees her again.
He will see me, happiness lighting his face like it had not in his entire life, and he will run to me. We will embrace, and he will confess his love to me and it will be so romantic!
Molly stopped walking as her daydream took over her mind and body. A grin spread across her face at the story she crafted in her head. However, the sound of something moving behind her caused her daydreaming to cease. She jumped, turning around to see what might've been there, but there was nothing there. Molly gave a nervous snort as she slowly turned around.
"Must've been the wind..." She said, attempting to put herself at ease.
She was a three year old now, she shouldn't be scared of childish things like random noises in the woods. As she chastised herself, she noticed that a bit of fog had begun to weave it's way through the trees. That likely meant that there was water nearby.
It wouldn't hurt to stop in for a drink.
The source of the water turned out to be the tiniest lake she'd ever laid eyes on, and there were tiny tree stumps stuck in the ground that didn't have any leaves on them and rather odd branches. Luckily there was a larger fallen tree that allowed her access through. It was all rather curious, and she didn't think twice about meandering into the place. She heard more rustling behind her, but paid it no mind as she got to the water. Again, blaming it on the wind.
By the lake was a large fallen tree, and she didn't think anything of it until she rounded it and saw a large thing in front of her. She shorted and jumped away from the item, almost tripping on an even smaller item in her haste to escape. Laughter errupted behind her and she whirled around to see a red roan overo filly snickering at her. Molly braced herself and glared at the filly.
"What are you laughing at?" Molly warned.
"Why you, obviously." The overo responded in between her laughs. "You act like you ain't never seen a stroller and shoes before!"
"Well, that's because I havent!" Molly stammered. "Those sound made up!"
"Well they're not!" The filly reponded, her laughter dying out.
Molly flicked her tail and stomped her hoof, "I've never heard of such things, so they must be."
"Are ya kidding? Humans use these things all the time!" She said exasperated.
At the word 'humans' Molly started to shake.
"H-humans? Are they near?" She gasped, her tail tucking behind her.
"Nah, they don-..." The filly trailed off, eyes wide as she looked behind Molly. "THERE THEY ARE!!!"
Molly screamed and jumped away from where she was standing, passing the overo filly quickly, who was laughing uncontrollably again. Molly took that moment to regain her senses, only to realize that the overo filly had been teasing her. Again, she braced her legs and glared at the filly as she stuck her tongue out at her.
"What's going on here?" A soothing female voice asked.
Molly and the overo filly both turned to look at a black mare, with light speckles dusting her coat, giving Molly the thought of the night sky.
"Uh, nuthin' Aluna..." The filly responded, dropping her head slightly.
"Logi, I know when you're lying to me." She chastised as she got closer, stopping a few paces away from the fillies.
"She was being mean to me, scaring me for no reason!" Molly responded, shooting another glare at Logi.
"What have Rowen and I been telling you about being nice?" Aluna questioned.
Logi dropped her head, giving Molly a side glance.
"Sorry.." She mumbled.
Molly snorted in response.
"What are you doing here?" Aluna asked, looking at Molly.
"Well, I was going to get a drink before a certain somebody decided to start trying to scare me." She responded.
"I wasn't aware that the humans had brought another horse here." Aluna mused. "But I am getting a little unobservant now-a-days."
"You're the sharpest horse here, Luna." Logi scoffed, lifting her head back up.
"You are very sweet, Logi." Aluna said with a smile, before turning back to Molly.
"I wasn't brought here. I'm a free horse." Molly said, indignatly at the thought of being a slave to a human.
"Then... how did you.." Aluna started to ask, but trailed off as her eyes scanned the fence-line. "There was a storm last night.. the humans must not have noticed the fence being down! ROWEN!!"
Molly jumped at the sound of the mare yelling. Her voice was commanding and full of authority. Soon enough the sound of another horse thundering towards them could be heard. A beautiful bay mare approached them, looking concerned at Aluna.
"What is it?" She asked, turning to look at Logi and then curiously at Molly.
"We might have a way out." Aluna said, turning towards Molly. "Can you show us how you got in?"
Molly nodded, a little confused, but more than happy to get away from the human home.
"Yeah, this way." She said, turning and leading them back to the fallen tree and through the fence line.
Aluna shivered slightly as she looked around, once they were away from the fence.
"I haven't seen the wild side of the valley in almost three years." She mused, a smile lighting up her face.
She turned back to Molly and nuzzled her neck.
"Thank you, how can we ever repay you?" She asked.
"Well.. there is one thing..." Molly admitted, "I'm having a hard time tracking down this stallion's herd, and I could really use the help."
"Of course, Rowen is very skilled at tracking horses. We'd be more than happy to help you out." Aluna smiled.
