Description
This is Arya from the book "Eragon". I know it´s not one of the best books about elves, but it´s actually the only thing about them to read, and since I like her character (remember, I´m a goner for strong female characters) even when I dislike Eragon, well... here´s my first attempt at this powerful elf.Btw, sorry, but my photoshop is broken, so you´ll have to endure plain pen.

Esta es Arya de "Eragon". Ya se que no es uno de los mejores libros para leer sobre elfos, pero de hecho es el único libro que tengo para leer de ellos, y dado que me gusta mucho ese personaje (recuerden, me fascinan los personajes femeninos fuertes!) aún cuando no me gusta Eragon, bueno... aquí está mi primer intento de esta elfo tan poderosa.
Por cierto, no sirve mi photoshop, así que tendrán que soportar simples trazos de pluma.

one of the things I adore about Arya is the way she´s portrayed: strong, determined, powerful. But I´ve always thought against the idea of women losing their feminity in order to get stronger, to look tougher. I´ve known so many very beautiful, very feminine women that would make males tremble just for their strength of heart and determination, and I´ve heard someone say "moms are tough" so why a warrior would have to lose this so important part of her (after all, she´s a female) to look strong? plus, she´s an elf, and elves are always portrayed as elegant, in my point of view, feminity is elegant by itself. Her fragile and delicate appearance is actually intentional, and in some way my own method of saying "nothing is what it looks like on the outside".

I really have to say, this is one of the best artworks I've seen in a while. However, it does have some things that could be cleaned up. For one, her right arm seems to be missing. Yes, I know it's supposed to be behind her body, but I feel like the elbow should at least be there. Her ear seems to stretch from her face too much, which is somewhat annoying to me. She's also a bit too skinny, in my opinion. In the book, she's described as breathtakingly beautiful, and I just don't see that in this image. On the other hand, you managed to capture everything that her character should encompass at the minimum. Strength, skill, power, and even a magic that surrounds her. She also is VERY much an elf in this image, which I like a lot.

I actually drew this out of inspiration from someone. My senpai is the strongest and most beautiful person for me, in a moment where I saw her struggle and still walk forward unscathed, that raw determination inspired me to draw her like this. I am certain a woman is beautiful by the simplicity and grace of her curves, and that the exaggerated curves only make a woman grotesque, not more beautiful. But that´s just me.

I have to say I truly love the way you drew Arya, even if it's just a sketch.
I think you potrayed her "elfish" look, her grace, strength and the her beauty really well. She does look a bit thin and fragile, but that's how elves are supposed to look, and it doesn't make her look less strong. Also, I think her eyes really show her determination and willpower.

That´s actually what I love about her, and about elves: they look gracious, elegant, they don´t need scary-looking or muscular appearances to actually BE strong. Their strength flows from within, in their magic, in their determination and in their confidence. That´s what I love about Arya. Her strength is easily seen in her eyes.

but the description of the book is that she is very beautiful but also strong...,
her hands and fingers are too thin. she should have atleast some muscles ...but not so many like avatar korra from Tlok

well, in my mind I pictured her always to be quite strong, but for me, strength is not measured by the amount of muscle in a hero´s body, but by the determination in their eyes, by their will power, especially related to women´s strength.
This Arya was drawn based on my own senpai, the strongest, most determined woman I´ve ever met, but if you´d met her, you´d find a quite short, and very skinny and fair woman, someone you would never think of as a warrior... that is, until you catch a glimpse of her EYES.

sisi, te lo digo en serio! me gusta mucho el detalle del pelo que le has puesto, y la expresion de sus ojos... si sólo t atrevieras a colorearlo, seria de los mejors dibujos que he visto aqui en DA.
No se hasta donde habras visto o leido, pero creeme, yo he leido los 4 libros y visto la pelicula, y a cada vez que vuelvo a hacerlo (pese a sabermelos de memoria) Arya sigue sorprendiendome como lo hizo la 1º vez.

i dont think being feminine contradicts her strength. that implies that to be strong she cannot appear delicate. it implies ones looks determines their ability and personality

unfortunately, I´ve found, in games and comics, strong women always appear rather rude, or with a man-eater-whorish attitude, or sometimes even tomboyish, in a way of speaking, when true strong women are not like that. That´s why I take my hat and bow in front of strong female characters that show and carry their feminity, their delicacy, with pride. That´s the way I envisioned Arya to be. A beautiful and graceful elf, showing through her actions and her eyes, the true strength within her.
In other words, I totally agree with you.
