On and off I notice people draw eyes which appear to look off to one side when they were really intended to look at you. I wanted to tackle this in a coherent fashion, so here you go a kind of tutorial or guide in which I discuss the matter of drawing 'look at' eyes.

If you would like more information, or a different way of explaining it, I can provide that. Message me or comment, if so

I hope this is useful to somebody ^,,^

wow! good work on this one! I did it the hard way! LOL! I was taught to use an egg to draw the eyes a certain way. from there, it was hit an miss for me.

Thanks muchly, Mr Shayde I don't think I've ever come across that method; would you mind explaining that one a bit more? I'd love to know if it indeed works or if it's fundamentally flawed ^,,^ (or somewhere in between!).

You turn an egg on it's side, and draw an eye on it, so that it looks like a real eye, just without the eyelids, and then you carefully drain the egg out of the shell. that way you can turn it every way you want, and get the view right. I'm trying to make a 3d model right now, so that is is easier.

Oooh, that makes sense! I understand ^^ yeah, I can see how a practical application of the theory like that could help. I do think it's somewhat flawed though, because it'll probably only work for the perspective of the eye - and even then, if you're dealing with more realistic proportions, an animal's eyes don't sit on such a curved plane. If you draw the iris etc. onto the egg, then you may not get a good understanding of how the head turns and how the eye stays still. What if you did this:

Hollow out the egg and put a small ping pong ball inside it with the eye proper drawn onto it, then use the egg as the eyelids.

Rotate from there and it should (theoretically) work better - unless I've entirely misunderstood the application
