Whoopi mentioned that people on set gave her the nickname 'Saucer-head'. LOL. Makes me laugh every time. But I love those hats. I think they look cool on her.

You know W>g> asked to be on the show- and at first they didn't think she was serious. Once they under stood that she was serious, They created Guinan for her- That's why she's not in every episode. They had to fit her appearences in and around W.G.'s schedule. This is why in "Relics", It's Data that serves Scotty the Green stuff instead of her.

I recently read a comic in which Picard and Guinan were lovers. It was an alternate universe tale, a la Yesterday's Enterprise but it was still quite surprising, until I recalled certain bits of throw-away dialogue:
LAFORGE: "As a woman. What's the first thing you look at?"
GUINAN: "His head."
LAFORGE: "His mind. Of course."
GUINAN: " No, his head. I'm attracted to bald men. "

I almost forgot about her.
I was always disappointed that they never did more with her. Did you ever get the impression during the series that she was some superbeing who was just masquerading in a human form? I sure did.... especially when Q screeched "Picard! You have no idea how dangerous it is to have this... creature onboard!"
Then, in Generations, they just showed the El-Aurians and just being regular people, without even a prosthetic forehead bit. How lame.

I always figured she was the anti-Q, then the writers didn't bother following up on any of that, just as you say. Turns out she's just really old.
