Description ....Be a man of greatness now
A man so tall, a man so kind
Be a man of wisdom now
A man of mind, a man of blind

Be a man of kindness now
A man so big and strong in mind
Be a man so humble now
A man of man, now let it shine

This is what you are
This is how it was planned now
This is what to be
Every kind of man now

This is what to say
With the kind of meaning
This is what to feel
With the kind of feeling

We are growing
Growing higher and higher
We are growing
Growing higher and higher

He is growing
Growing higher and higher
We are growing
Growing higher and higher....

---Margaret Singana: We Are Growing

The third-ish best artwork I've done all summer, in my opinion.

Greatly inspired from the 80’s TV mini-series Shaka Zulu. This isn’t a fanart of Shaka Zulu but if you see it that way, you can go with it. lol

I love this work for so many reasons……

Materials: graphite powder, graphite pencils, acrylic paint, primas marker, staedtler pens

Time: Don’t ask….. I worked on this off and on for the last 2 weeks ish maybe

Music:
Margaret Singana: We Are Growing
Lion King : Lea Halalela, He lives in you
Other Shaka Zulu music

Very dynamic picture. I love the fact that you can look at it and just tell that there is a story behind it. I unfortunately have never heard of the show, but after looking it up, I think it must have been a good one. I am part Native American myself, so these types of stories always get my attention, no matter the part of the world. Besides, history can be interesting anyways, even if sad.

Thank you!! I have Native American blood semi-distance away, if you know what I mean and I'm really proud of that. It's great to know that these kinds of stories grab other as well. Please do watch it (I think they have the entire series on youtube...last I checked thought I have the DVDs) it's a great story! I love Shaka. If you ever check it out and remember, let me know what you thought of it. Depending on the history it can be. There are some history I'd rather not revisit.

If this kind of this interest you, you should check out Apcalypto if you have not! It's more a historical fantasy but I love it. It's deals with Incan/Azetcan kinda of culture.

Btw, thank you so much for the fav!!!

I shall have to look them both up then. Nice to meet a fellow kinsman. I am part Sioux, Siouan, and Blackfoot (that I know of). My great great grandmother even had a picture with her and Sitting Bull when she was younger, before she was adopted. I'll make sure to let you know what I think. Have you ever heard the song Creek Mary's Blood by Nightwish?

Please do! Wow!! That's awesome!! I think my great-grandparents (one on each side) was full bloodied Cherokee. As far as we know, that's the extent of Indian tribes that we know of. Really? That's pretty cool!!!

I don't think so. If it's with the new lady singer then I definitely haven't. I take it you like the song?

No its with Tarja, its about the Trail of Tears, and has the Lakota language in the beginning and end of the song. I think its a nice homage to Native Americans, which is why I asked. Cherokees are pretty neat. I went to a Cherokee pow wow when I was really little, but I don't remember it very much.

Huh, I have to check it out sometime. I've never been to anything of the sort.

I don't know about you but I love Native American music. Discover this one a short while ago. It's my new favorite right now! [link]

I love it! Shaka is.....something isn't he? I telling you, I can spot him in a crowd from the way he walks. Seriously. I love him. I should bust out my DVDs sometime, it's been awhile. Henry Celtse (or however you spell his last name) owned that part! And I get hooked on that song as well!

I like your pencil work even your style. I looked up at the sun in the corner and that's what cued me to style. The middle ground with all the people is the most noticable because it's got action but then the eye gets draw back to your dude with all the glory. It's pretty awesome. That sun is the shit to not just some floating orb in the sky it speaks of some forgotten culture. Good Jorb

Desertfire In reply to 00ji [2010-09-05 17:00:50 +0000 UTC]

There is the 80's TV mini-series: [link]

You can watch it on youtube here: [link]

Then there is the disaster which is a movie made like...well not long ago, I wanna say 05. There is no way to hook it up to the TV series. It's just like they cash in on the Shaka Zulu character. Not to mention David Hasselhoff or whatever his name is in in. I skipped around watching it but it just.....whoo...you can watch it if you want, but I couldn't get through it. Can also be found on youtube.
