A gray wolf walks through a snow covered forest. The wolf appears to be in motion, walking towards the viewer with intense eyes that are directly engaging the viewer. Its fur has shades of gray, black, and hints of brown, suggesting a thick coat suitable for cold environments. The background features slender, bare trees with a few leaves or branches, and the ground has patches of snow, indicating a chilly, winter setting. The wolf's posture and gaze give it a sense of purpose and a wild nobility. The colors are muted, with a palette of whites, grays, and earth tones that create a realistic winter atmosphere. The drawing style is detailed with textured oil pastels that give life to the wolf's fur and the surrounding forest.
From the artist: This piece is remarkable in that it was first oil pastel work to be set in a winter environment. It was also my largest and most detailed work to feature a wolf at the time.
The original is 18”x 24” on archival quality sanded paper. It was made using professional grade Sennelier oil pastels and Faber Castell Polychromos colored pencils. It has been fixed with 4 coats of Sennelier fixative for oil pastels.
