But how could albus still let himself be touched by the reason for her death?

The same way people can be close to family members who were driving in a crash that killed another family member, I imagine. I always had the impression that Albus' biggest demon after Ariana died was his own conduct, far more than Gellert's.

Yeah many claim he'd loaded himself too much fault and it made him almost sick.
Still I thought Gellert ran away, the last string of light, leaving him behind with his shattered world.
No matter how graceful I imagine grindelwald, in the end he wasn't that gallant inside

Oh, I agree. I don't think Grindelwald was a particularly good person. But I'm also pretty suspicious of Albus and his recollection of things - he has a fairly selective and self-serving memory and logic. I think it's entirely possible that their bond disintegrated in the days after Ariana died under the stress of what had happened, and it morphed in Albus' mind into Gellert callously running out on him (especially once Gellert was a warlord - Albus had a lot of personal and reputational investment in Gellert being a Cad Who Led Him Astray).
I'm not saying that's what actually did happen, mind you. Not at all. Just that it's possible, and therefore fair game for creative purposes.

Though I doubt that Aberforth would have allowed him at the funeral....
