While working on the 25 Days of Christmas, I decided to finish my last two contest entries of the year. Since Morgan moved the date(AGAIN) I had to find some time out of my day to figure out what to draw out. Luckily for me, I was able to find some time when I was on my break.

This though took me two days to draw and I chose Little Shop of Horrors as the paper entry for this contest.

I went with teh song Somewhere That's Green. Alan Menken and Howard Ashman wrote this song as the "I Want" song for Audrey, Seymour's love interest as it follows her desire to get the hell out of Skid Row and her abusive boyfriend and live in a place "somewhere that's green". It also reveals that the feeling is mutual as she has a crush on Seymour as he has a crush on her.

The song itself which was basically the precursor to The Little Mermaid's Part of Your World was also a satire of what the "perfect life" of 1950s-1960s suburban life was like and how people envied that life, but judging by the other movies that I've seen where it DOES take place in that "perfect" world, there's also an ugly side to it too. Things have evolved over the years like TVS have gotten bigger(12 inch back then was big but today's TVs are smaller), Tupperware parties aren't as common as it was and there's one bed for parents. However, things did stay like the pop culture which had Betty Crocker with her products, and in the media Donna Reed, Howdy Doody and I Love Lucy.

There was this scene where as Audrey admires her new life, this Disneyesque bird comes over to her Disney Princess style. It is a little weird, but I personally think it's a foreshadow to when Alan Menken and Howard Ashman wrote songs for Disney during 1989-1991.

I love how she used Carrie as Audrey considering that both DEFINETLY need a hug after all the trouble they went through and they are wallflowers in their own ways.
