Description 1960 DeSoto Adventurer

Just as its Chrysler stablemate Plymouth had introduced the high-end Fury in 1956, DeSoto debuted its limited-prduction Adventurer two-door coupe in that year. What would normally be extra-cost equipment came standard on the sub-series of DeSoto's Fireflite: dual exhaust, power brakes, whitewall tires, dual rear view mirrors, power front seat, and electric windows. The first Adventurer's engine was the top-of-the-line 341.4-cid V-8 with twin four barrel cabrs producing 320 horsepower. All DeSoto models enjoyed trendy new fins.

By 1960, DeSoto was in failing financial health, and only two models were offered - the long-rung Firefilte and the high-performance Adventurer's standard engine was a 383-cid V-8 with two-barrel carburetor and high-compression (10.0:1) heads that pumped out 305 horses. For another $54, speed fans could move to the 383 with four-barrel and dual exhausts; for $283 extra, the Adventurer came with dual four-barrel mounted on the cross-ram intake that produced 330 horsepower.

There would be no 1961 Adventurer; DeSoto closed on November 30, 1961.

Engine: 383-cid V-8 with cross-ram induction
Owner: Don Miller
Trivia: The final-year Adventurer displays the tallest tailfins to ever appear on a DeSoto.

Actually DeSoto closed in November 30 1960 but there was once some plans for a proposed 1962 DeSoto [link] with one rejected proposal done by Don Kopka who had a front end who look a bit similar to the Mercury of the same era (ironically Don Kopka left Chrysler to join Ford) at [link] and someone posted some renderings of a proposed "DeSoto Valiant" mentionned in a old Motor Trend magazine issue at the Forwardlook forum [link]

And a carfan did a rendering of his own "what if" idea of a 1962 DeSoto [link]
