Description The Hemi that changed racing. At the 1964 Daytona 500, Petty and 7 other hemi racers led 183 laps of 200. Winning the race in three hours and fifteen minutes, in front of 82K spectators on that hot day, Chrysler shut the door on the Mercury and Ford power houses on the track all the way till the end of the Superbirds and Daytona's. Historians speculated that the Belvedere did 176 MPH -unofficially.

A Belvedere with a 426 HEMI would have a respectable power to weight ratio.
