Kampfschwimmer ("combat swimmers") are the Frogmen commandos of the Kaiserliche Marine. They are the naval special forces specialized for diving operations and one of the most elite units in the whole Reichswehr and one of the most revered special forces units in the world. Their tasks include reconnaissance of enemy ports, ships and coastal facilities (although they have started to operate inland on a regular basis nowadays), boarding and sabotage of enemy vessels, countering enemy frogmen forces and many other highly classified operations.

Their insignia is a sawfish symbolizing the underwater sabotage operations that the first units were tasked with. The Kampfschwimmer badge in bronze is awarded upon completing the training, the silver version is awarded after 5 successfully completed missions while the most prestigious gold version is awarded for 20 missions. The individual is eligible to wear the badge even after leaving the unit but the insignia on headwear and the special blue beret is worn only while serving with the unit or by the retired Kampfschwimmer. The Waffenfarbe of Kampfschwimmer is Jägergrün. The Kampfschwimmer motto is "Lerne leiden ohne zu klagen" which is German for "learn to suffer without complaining".
