Küstenjäger ("coastal rangers") are the elite special forces light infantry of the Kaiserliche Marine. Historically, they were created to serve as commando-style raiders especially on the shores of the Baltic Seabut nowdays their scope of missions expanded to a broad scale of operations in all theaters. They specialize in coastal raids using small fast craft, using the sea to get behind enemy lines and carrying out acts of sabotage, logistical attacks etc. They also serve as infantry support for Kampfschwimmer missions and as the leading force for Seebataillon amphibious landings.

Their insignia is a sealion holding a trident which they wear on the special blue beret. The beret is worn only while serving with the unit or by the retired Küstenjäger. Trident is the symbol they adopted from Swedish Kustjägarna after which they were modelled upon their creation and with which they cooperate extensively in training and in combat missions alike. The Waffenfarbe is Jägergrün.
