And thus out of curiosity, I went to check out what "Pitch Black" was all about. I curse myself for not having heard of it sooner ! Not only are the creatures very close in terms of characterization and ferocity to Michael Crichton's Raptors (Jacob's description of the novel ones is spot-on, they're demons who get you and go full R-rated ripping apart of your insides !) but it is a blast of a sci-fi movie ! In fact, Pitch Black is the blue print of what Jurassic Park III should have been ! The mercs, the darkness, the gore, the predators that are high on their slaughter , everything that makes me rock hard ! Just replace these alien swarms with the theropods and add a jungle set-up and you're good to go.
As for Riddick himself, well Vin Diesel's character is much closer to what Classic Deadpool is actually like than Ryan Reynolds' defanged attempt. You heard right. The unpleasantness, the treachery, the misotheism, the dark humor , the lethal proficiency... Richard B.Riddick is closer to the Wade Wilson I enjoyed on-page and I wanted on-screen. What are the odds ?
