Description Sketches from a meeting at work. NB: the bigger dragon is wrongly drawn, the coils should go under-over-under-over etc all the time!
They are drawn in the Urnes-style, which is late Viking age around 1000 AD.

Absolutely love your work! I was wondering if you could give me a permission to use the bigger dragon for my embroidery project for a LARP event. Of course, I will credit you properly when I post the pictures. Thank you!

I absolutely love these pictures, they are awesome! I was wondering, might I use the smaller dragon, in the lower right corner, for an embroidery project? I want to make a Viking age underdress with embroidered sleeves, and I think that would be gorgeous for the sleeves. Please and thank you?

Devilry In reply to Flashgriffin [2012-03-28 08:50:52 +0000 UTC]

Sure, no problem! I'm happy that you get use out of them. Btw, it would be totally awesome if you could take a photo of your underdress when it's finished so I could see what it looks like in embroided form!

Of course I will! Thank you for allowing me to use your work. When I post it to DA, I will mention you as the artist. (It might not get done for months...)

I very much enjoy this style, even if the dragon was drawn wrong. The knots always seem to me so natural and flowing, reminds me of waves and oceans. Awesome job. PS: That leaf down there is pretty fancy, too.

That is the ideal Urne knotwork, to get a good rhythm going. It's a challenge to make it harmonic, well-balanced, logical (a dragon looks a certain way for example), AND get the over-under-over thing right! But that's why it's so much fun.
Thank you for the comment and for also liking the leaf!

That's awesome. I like the smaller one. What do the runes on the big one mean?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Devilry In reply to muffinpoodle [2008-05-10 09:57:45 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! The runes say "avdelningsmΓΆte" which is swedish for "department meeting". I drew this at a depertment meeting..
