Dat 90s color palette.
Thank you, I normally shy away from saturated colors.

I much prefer muddy/earthy colors. Maybe with a little pop of color.

I love seeing your WIPs! I also really like how clean your sketches are--how is this achieved?? I have so many random influences for my characters too (you'd think some of them wouldn't fit but they do!). It would be cool to see an inspiration sheet for your Nightbreak cast!

I'm a slow drawer lol.
(◉ v ◉) Tell me about your characters.
I keep contemplating doing one of those Influence Maps, but never for individual characters.

lol That's a handy method for keeping your pictures nice and neat.
Okay so it took me a while to actually think about the influences behind the Big Three in Maelstrom (minus Ivo, sorry buddy), hence the late reply. Trenton: Indiana Jones, Han Solo, the 11th Doctor (personality-wise), Ian Malcolm ('The Lost World'), and screwball comedy Cary Grant; Cornelia: Anne Shirley, Katara, and Evie (from 'The Mummy' circa 1999); and Hester: Toph, Ahsoka Tano, and Murph (from 'Interstellar'). There's probably a lot more influences that I can't remember at the moment, but those are the main ones!
Were there any specific characters that influenced the rest of the Nightbreak cast?

I can totally see the Han Solo in Trenton, and I love that you mentioned Ian Malcolm! Evie from The Mummy is great too.
There are a couple for me. Bits of Fiver from the Watership Down book and Cassandra from Greek myth were used in Rei. That running-fireworks-scarf kid from Underoath's Sunburnt video was what inspired his outfit, haha... (it was 2013, okay.) He actually used to be one of those gruff-and-boringsilent characters, then I made him a cinnamon roll, then I thought both of those tropes were a underdeveloped so he became neither (actuallly, he's still a crispy cinnamon roll). I can't really think of any characters that inspired Shad, his personality is basically me because we're both buttholes with Dad issues. Jon Campling inspired some of Cerus' look and really I just want to work his design back to him because he's the coolest-looking old guy I've ever seen lol. I think I mentioned some of this forever ago when you tagged me in this journal, like Shad's Dad being inspired by the prophet Hosea.

Ian's great, I mean, he's a snarky turd but you still love him. So basically Trenton. Doesn't he have a daughter or something in The Lost World? Hmm... (´◑ω◐`)
Wait, I think Campling actually was a wizard, he was a Death Eater in one of the HP movies or something once. I'm gonna have to rewatch sometime just for that.
Nievé's gonna finish up her part and after that it's Shad for dayzz (+ backstory).

lol Basically! And yes, that he does...
W A T That's why he looked familiar! My mom and I were having our annual Potterthon over Christmas and we never finished the last three movies--I'm going to have to watch them with her to play I Spy Mr. Campling. xD I'm also hoping we have our LOTR summerthon this year so I can watch Legolas making faces in the bg. lol

It's interesting learning a thing or two about her anime. Do you own a copy of it on DVD or video?

I would love to find it on DVD, but I think it's kinda rare. It's called Green Legend Ran and I remember stumbling across it on YouTube and watching it out of curiosity, 90s English dub and all (eeeee).
As a whole, it could've been executed a little better, but I did fall in love with the idea of the plot. Oh, and it had nice animation.

Reading about it, it does share similarities to Nausicaa and a few other animes. I guess it would be a rarity on home video. I wonder if anyone would bother remaking it these days?
