Awww... but doing inking assists way back when was so fun for me! Borders and straight lines, fills, BWS, and noodling around in the backgrounds was a great way for me to fill my time without much credit or pay!
Seriously, though; great inks on his pencils. And I understand about not using assistants...

I just stand by the idea when you see my name in the credits, it's all me. No one else helping out without credit. Plus I figure, if you can't fill in all the page by yourself, then you just turn into a heartless machine cranking out factory pages. Quality over quantity.

Fair enough, and that certainly makes sense. Although I'd managed to actually get my "Ink Assists" tag in a couple of issues... (and that was great for me before I'd ever had any kinds of credits), that was the exception rather than the rule. I think it had more to do with editing the credits page than anything else. But what I gained in experience with inking made up for not having my name in the book.
Having an assistant can allow the "real inker" more time to throw themselves onto the things that matter; main characters in a scene, focus points, line weights, etc.. I mean, if it takes an assistant an hour spotting blacks, ruling panel borders and straight edges, erasing and simple clean-up on a page, then that would be an hour more the lead inker could use on a highly technical page. Kind of like a colorist using someone else to do their flats for them. It doesn't degrade their work (when done properly) but allows them a bit more in terms of time management and attention to detail.
But yeah, no one should *ever* have to work without credit for their work. And filling in the page by yourself can become tedious sometimes, depending on the pages. An assistant can help allow a bit of room for embellishment and enhancement.

I just love the contrast in each panel. I'd still buy this book if it was just black and white.

I just wish they'd bring back the Batman: Black & White. That was some of my favorite bat related stuff to come out in recent memory.

Without sounding bland, it's a real comfortable gig. So used to jumping around on various things, that it's nice to just work with one guy for a long time on something.

I first saw Dustin's work (I think) in Authority and have totally enjoyed everything I've seen from him, and your inks look dynamite on his lines. This Detective run you guys are putting together looks beautiful. Nice work.
