Description
Cover for issue #20 of New X-Men coming out in November from Marvel Comics. I'll also be doing the interiors as well so check it out if you're into comics. It picks up right after the 'House of M' event and is going to be life changing to the New X-Men characters. Characters on the cover are X-23, Hellion, Mercury, Elixir, Dust, Rockslide, and Surge. Pencils, inks, and colors by me.Some people seem to be confused about these guys as X-Men. To clarify, the regular X-Men(Wolverine, Storm, Rogue, Iceman, Cyclops, etc) are all still the regular X-Men. New X-Men is the name of the book that used to be called New Mutants. These guys are basically X-Men in training.

The 1980s New Mutants you knew of grew up and left the school (Karma, Magma), others were killed off (Magik, Cypher). Some of the New Mutants (Warpath, Sunspot) stayed behind when Cable took over as leader and turned them into X-Force. Other members joined the regular X-Men team (Cannonball), and some became teachers to the New X-Men (Wolfsbane, Mirage).

They always do that. Every decade they have the kids grow up.
Characters introduced during Grant Morrison's run in 2001 have already grown up (Quentin Quire just had his 17 birthday party, but due to spending several years disembodied he is technically older) and are seniors to the newer mutants introduced in the 2010's.

Meanwhile, Cannonball and Sunspot quit the X-Men and joined the Avengers.
Cannonbal just got married to a superhero named Smasher and they had a son together named Josiah Guthrie.
Sunspot is now the leader of the new A.I.M. = Avengers Idea Mechanics. A team consisting of Hulkling, Wiccan, Squirrel Girl, Songbird and Hawkeye.

The New X-Men are in my opinion the most underrated book in X-Men-perhaps even Marvel-history. I always though about an animated show about them. In fact, I have a few ideas for how it would turn out. And trust me it's a good idea to go for. If Young Justice is about the Justice League trainees, Marvel can compete with the New X-Men.

I agree. Sadly, it will never happen. Marvel in conjunction with Marvel Studios want to sabotage properties they don't own film rights to. That's why the Fantastic Four were cancelled, and characters such as Namor and Kang will not be in the MCU films. That is also why there hasn't been much merchandise featuring the X-Men and F4, and instead we are seeing more of the Avengers and Spidey.

I can't believe this comic ended after only 50 something issues it was so good, but then again I guess they did kill off a few to many characters to get it going much longer, I mean they replaced half the cast by the end

i just started this illustration class in my art school and the teacher has given the assignment to redesign most of the x-men characters (unfortunately the only new x-men is x23) - it's a cool ass assignment - i'm excited about it
i've been watching your art for a while now - amazed and astonished by your ability to do such a great amount of detail and get so much personality and mood into each of your pieces
so my friend comes over my house yesterday to work on the big redesign project and he's got this comic book in his hand
i look at the cover and see this - it was the New X-Men Vol 1
and i freaked! i knew immediately it was yours and opened it up and stole it from him for about an hour or two as i read it
such a fantastic story - the artwork is just superb - i've been using it as referance for poses and the like
i'm a big fan and i can't wait to buy all the (3?) volumes that are currently out - i'm spending some money tonight!!!
so, let me at least make a comment about the picture itself -
i have such a hard time arranging group shots that i'm just amazed at how yours flow and are pleasing to the eye yet never the same twice
your anatomy, the different facial structures, details, everything is amazing
and the inking and coloring too... (it's one of my goals to get my inking/lineweight coloring skill to the level where i may have a change to color for a major comic book)

X-23 in this, is the way she should be colored. In cover number 25, her eyes are brown and her skin is too dark :S But the line art and the rest of the coloring is great

If only you had done the art work on the X-23 mini series, than it would have been bigger than it was. That is just the best X-23 version I have ever seen by anyone - period!!!!
