A. ultima is known from whole body fossils? Β Reconstructions of the South American species suggest it looks more like Cladoselache

The picture of body fossil of juvenile Antarctilamna was unexpectable for me too - the tail was abou the same as in hybodonts, not as in Diplodoselache. Most probably it's a basal shark group, related to xenacants.

Sweet! Have encountered numerous Antarctilamna prisca (in fossil form) in Victoria and NSW - good to see the African species getting some attention.

This species is known on hole body remains! Australian and Antarctian remains are fragmentary...
