Now that Sonic Generations is looking pretty good, the only way I can see SEGA bringing back attention to Sonic 4, is to make it a big budgetted game, and TRULY aimed at classic fans.Related content

Yeah, I think SEGA should do that.
Disregard the old Sonic 4 and remake Sonic 4 to be a least a good game.

Of course, Sega would never admit that they messed up, and if what they're currently doing is making them money, even if it drags Sonic through the dirt, they'll keep doing it.

now I prefer the modern day Sonic style gameplay (I prefer the classic look) but if they were trying to make a Sonic 4 they should do it correctly and not have the entire game fuelled by cheap nostalgia. I like classic Sonic games too and I agree that Sonic 4 episode 1 was an insult to the classics and episode 2 looks like they are making similar mistakes

That reminds me...I PLAYED Sonic 4 for the first time recently, and despite all the overwhelmingly good responses I've heard...I dunno, I just couldn't get into it. It seemed to rely TOO much on nostalgia. Many of the new zones reminded me of zones in the other three games, but all that accomplished was making me want to play the other games because they were better.

Yeah, this was the main problem. It's like it makes you want to play the GOOD versions of those stages.
They relied on a misconcept of nostalgia, and forgot about gameplay to boot.
Maybe Sonic Generations will be a lesson to Sonic 4 and improve it drastically.. I still want to play some 2P Cooperative as Sonic and Tails. 
A four player mode would be wicked, though.

there are still more installments to come, Sonic 4 might yet become this. But I don't know why people harp on the art style so much, it looks FINE the way it is.

Peh... I'm not buying into "Generations" and its hype. From what I've seen, it still looks like another "hold Right/Up to win" racing game instead of the detailed and explorable platformer of the glory days.

It looks like it has momentum at least, that much already makes it better than Sonic 4 (not that it's TOO hard to surpass that game)
And I've seen less than half an act, so I wouldn't jump the gun just yet.
