Description Today I bring you another of the extinct animal species that once inhabited the Canary Islands: The Canary Islands quail (Coturnix gomerae). This time I am not very satisfied with the drawing, as it was made relatively fast. Nevertheless, let's talk about this bird.

The Canary Islands quail lived in many islands of the archipelago; its scientific name makes reference to the island of La Gomera, where the first remains of this bird were found. Not much is known about this species, although it is believed to be a close relative of the common quail (C. coturnix), which also lived (and still does) in the archipelago. It is thought that it was pretty similar to the common quail, although it had longer and more robust legs and slightly shorter wings. Like many quail species, the Canary Islands quail would have spent a lot of time on the ground, only taking off in rare occasions. This bird was hunted and consumed by the original settlers of the archipelago, as its rests have been found in archaeological sites. No historical accounts exist about this species, so it probably became extinct before the arrival of europeans to the Canary Islands.

Hi Tigon, I'm fine, thanks for asking
About the request you made, I'm still planning to take it. However, the last 4 months were pretty busy for me and I couldn't finish the projects I had in mind. I want to finish this series first before starting other drawings.

Okay. I don't mind.

But during that time I found some obscure La Brea Tar Pits birds. Want to hear what they are?
