Description Restoration of Tamarro insperatus, a new troodontid published earlier this year. The remains of this dinosaur (which consist only in a foot bone, a metatarsal) were discovered in the Late Cretaceous rocks of the Tremp Formation, near the Catalonian Pyrenees (NE Spain). Although very scarce, the remains suggest that this theropod was related to Jinfengopteryx, Liaoningvenator and Philovenator and that the growth rate of the animal was quite fast, similar to that of modern birds. Apart from being the only European member of this group, Tamarro was larger than its closest relatives, perhaps reaching up to a meter in length.

The name of the genus references the local folklore (the tamarro is a mythical creature of unknown appearance). By the time Tamarro lived, the area was a river basin near the sea. Many sauropod eggs are known from the same formation, which indicate that the site was a nesting ground for these dinosaurs (that's the reason for the depiction of eggs in the drawing).
