Description Gift for a good friend of mine He loves International, and I wanted to draw him an antique diesel, so here's a rendering of a 1951 Farmall M-D. The scanner didn't like my use of reds and grays so the grays look kinda green and aren't as dark and smooth as they were in the original. Someday, I'll figure out how to fix this stuff in my PS Elements!

Copic marker on Copic marker pad

I have no affiliation with International. I used a reference photo that I believe I found through Google images, but I found it back in December...

I love this rendition!! Excellent painting!!!

I found the next smaller Farmall - should be able to capture it this summer. I'm still looking for this one!

Thank you, honey!

And way cool! I'm partial to the diesels, myself But I bet finding a '51 diesel is a rarity. I hope you get that Farmall and an M-D!

I love the red! You did a nice job with the detail on the name and those rims are sooooo fly. LOL really though they look good. The deatiling in the engine and undercarriage is nice too. What I like is at first glance the image seemed really simple and then all these details jumped out.

I love how with markers I can very simply imply a wealth of detail with just a couple strokes in the right places

I won't comment on that comment out of context. But yeah definitely amazing what effect just a couple of strokes can have. And you have such a skill at using them in the right places.

All seriousness though it's very true I once realized it with a renaissance painting at LACMA where there was a portrait of this guy with a ring and the ring just simple poppped like 3-D because the way the artist had did the light reflecting off the metal. When I came up REALLY close to the painting I realized the shine that cause such a big effect on the painting was simply one dot or stroke the artists had put on very strategically with stark white paint.

Now that's really cool. I hope to figure out all the little things that really make these drawings pop for the viewer, because it really is the little details that matter to bring the whole image together

Most definitely especially with your truck pictures. For most one truck only varies from another by colour so it will be these little details that will give it personality.

If you can figure out how to make scanners work, then you must be part magician! You did a great job on this one, too! Plenty of great value changes in this piece of work! Like ferrariartist said, nothing muddy here!

Excellent!
I love your red shading. The large wheel rim turned out great with the upper shadowed area gradating down to the lighter lower part.
When marker rendering redF-cars i sometimes end up muddying the colour in the darker areas... they end up not looking shadowed but dirty - not the effect i'm shooting for by any means... and something you have not done here.
if i may ask what are the names your red shades of Copic markers that you use? If i am asking trade secrets, i'll understand...

Thanks, hon! I saved the wheel for last, as I still wasn't sure where exactly it would be positioned and I didn't like it in the sketch underneath. I'm just glad it turned out well

Not a trade secret at all! For these reds (lightest to darkest) I used the R35, R29, R39, R59, and the V09 for the darks. I'll usually use the pale violets for sky reflection, but I didn't want to touch on reflections in this, so I used the R20 and R35 up on top. I know where you're coming from, though! Reds are tough, especially since they're warm and it's not easy getting them to darken without going brown. I found the right violet for it, though

Yellow is hard for me! LOL
