Haha, yeah. It's all published through the Archie company. Though, you never know. They've had a Sonic crossover, maybe Archie character crossover down down the road.

You would think he would have gotten more than just an occasional mention, particularly because he was important in one game and built Beat for the next game...

This character was interesting in the megaman storyline, because He was not just a typical 'evil' vilain, but he has to fight Rock to save Her daughter

Any whoo...

Love your work Tabby. Made me think of the mad scientist cliche, well La-linde did.

That's some nice attention to detail you applied to Linda's expression. I wouldn't have recognized her unless you mentioned where she's from, which only goes to show how much I really need to keep up with the latest issues.

BTW, what's happening with the WGA? Failing the rating system, you said you were going to try posting art submissions as articles so that visitors can leave comments.

I've made an effort to avoid the Archie Mega man comic (I've been a Sonic fan for years, I've seen what they've done and what they're capable of), what's LaLinde's deal?

👍: 0 ⏩: 3

D-T In reply to VR-Hyoumaru [2012-07-19 19:46:33 +0000 UTC]

Thomas Light, Albert Wily, Mikhael Cossack, and Noelle LaLinde all studied together at the Robot Institute of Technology, later going on to build robots themselves.

Dr. LaLinde originally had goals similar to Dr. Light's and built "Tempo," a female robot similar to Rock and Roll. When Tempo was badly damaged in an accident, LaLinde couldn't handle it - she had come to think of Tempo as her own daughter, and couldn't bear to see her daughter hurt. She removed Tempo's emotions, and started arguing that it's wrong to give robots emotions, because it leads to sorrow. "Why build an emotional connection with a very fancy tool you made? Why think of a calculator as your child?"

Most I've heard was Megaman is constantly going through emotional changes like he's got MPD and comparisons between Quake Woman and Sally Acorn (that last one feels particularly horrific)

D-T In reply to VR-Hyoumaru [2012-07-19 19:30:34 +0000 UTC]

You've been hearing nonsense.

Yes, Rock went through an emotional rollercoaster. The first time was because he was built to be a pacifist, and fighting other robots made him depressed. Then he started getting carried away by the rush of power he was getting from all the robot master abilities he'd copied, and snapped out of it once he basically stopped and looked at how he'd been acting. He's programmed to be a kid, he's going to have some trouble handling some things.

A good bit after that he started becoming cold and hard, which turned out to be due to a virus of Wily's.

As for the Sally Acorn comparison, that REALLY tells me that the people you've been hearing things from are dishonest and looking for things to complain about. Quake Woman's role is to be a robot that has no emotions. None at all. She's essentially a tool that can walk around, that's voice activated and that can say things back, but at the moment she has no emotions. You may as well point at a screwdriver and compare it to Sally Acorn.

(And honestly the guy that started writing for Sonic in 2006 has improved Sally a LOT).

Mega Man had some emotional turmoil in the first arc where the story was based off of the first game (and that's really the only time you saw that), because it was his first time doing this sort of thing and he was questioning whether or not it was right to hurt other robots who had been reprogrammed to do evil against their will. I honestly don't think it was handled badly at all.

As for Quake Woman... I honestly don't see how she's anything like Sally Acorn. The only similarity is that she's a female character originating from the comics, as otherwise there's no similarities at all. Quake Woman is a robot who currently is programmed without a personality (due to plot related purposes that I won't spoil in case you ever do decide to check out the comics). She doesn't have a romance with the main character, and she seems to be treated mostly as just another Robot Master like Elec Man or Pharaoh Man. I don't get where anyone can come up with a comparison to Sally Acorn, as they share absolutely nothing in common outside of, like I said, both being Archie originals and female.

I know that the Archie Sonic comics were pretty horribad for a long time at some point, but they got better as soon as Ian Flynn started writing for them, and he's also been writing the Mega Man comics which I find to be pretty good. They're not on the same level as Hitoshi Ariga's stuff, I'll admit, but then... what is? I'd say it's probably the second best Mega Man fiction ever, so far (the first being, of course, the Megamix and Gigamix manga). I think it'd be in your best interest to remove any anti-Archie bias you might have, and just check it out and give it a chance. If you don't like it, that's fine, but it's better to try something before you knock it. It's not fair to form an opinion about something you're not even familiar with, afterall. Who knows, maybe you might even like it. I know I was skeptical about it myself, but I've come to really like it. It's certainly better than I thought it'd be, at least.

As a former Sonic reader, I totally get where you're coming from.
However, Ian, the new writer, is doing a fantastic job at Mega Man. It started out a little slow, but we had to get all the MegaMan1 rehash BS out of the way. Now it's taking interesting turns. As for Sonic, I've heard rumors that Ian is turning the Sonic comics back around and they've become pretty good again. (Can't remember the name of the old writer, but yeah, he really fucked Sonic up)

As for Dr. LaLinde, she's turning out to be a pretty interesting character. She worked with Dr. Light and Dr. Cossack when they were younger. She built an RM, Quake Woman. But, she's very at odds with how advanced AI is. Dr. Light is like a father, and while he worries, he's accepting Rock has to do dangerous things. Let's just say Dr. LaLinde is a mother, and her heart can't take the strain. So, well, Quake Woman has no personality. The arc is still going on, so it'll be interesting to see how she develops and see what her reasons are.
