In this video tut ill show you the basics of importing an image into photoshop with an alpha channel and then removing that channel for further PS editing.
Also will show you how to make realistic looking lightning.

This is magnificent but I have one question. Once your lightening bolts are made, how could you replace the black with a real sky stock image?

This was by far the best lightning tut I've seen. Never would have thought to start with a gradient... always started with clouds, then difference clouds.

Damn that was easy. It's amazing to me how scared I was of PS when I first bought it - like it would be so incredibly hard to use... But more and more it's just...easy.

Not yet..It is an whole set.. like 5 sigs put into an 1000x1000 pxl canvas.I have like 3 done so far,and the third is missing text,cuz on that one blend it refuses to put large text on it.....I have it on 72 arial and it appears like a few dots..LOL. Those are the ways photoshop reminds you that it's only a program not an friend XD

for the lighning how would you comp it with like a sky br?

if you take the finished layers of lightning and merge them...then drop them on your new picture and adjust the blending modes until it bests suits your picture....its hard for to pinpoint what mode will work best for your pic...but its all in the blending modes and opacity. I hop that helps...let m know.

hey a good idea for the lightning (if it is going to be the focus of your picture) is to add a layer underneath everything and just render difference clouds instead of having a plain black background
