I do like your style of graphics, but I must also advise you there are users who have a list of 40 programs they need immediate access to. I run about 8 programs at any given moment, and my quicklaunch contains so many programs/websites/shortcuts its insane.

Some users only type and go to pet owner sites. Power users, though, need an extreme amount of flexibility. Those are the ones reviewing and actually using the OS.

The windows7 blog is impressing me so far... but im scared for windows7.

its strange though, that i love ubuntu os far more than the other os's.

i think windows8 might get it right..?

Thanks for your thoughts, in my more recent concept [link] I started to work on the menu system to hold more programs, within the black area would be 4 category buttons, such as media, office, editing and system... as the interface is designed for touch screen it could work well and minimize clutter while remaining functional.

I tend not to pay attention to early developments of OS's anymore as it only leads to disappointment.

Hey, thanks for the nice and articulate response!

Being designed for touch interface is an interesting thing, considering the many DPI and screen sizes. Bob uses a cell phone, and Bill uses a mile-wide projection screen. Pretty crazy. Even in the typical desktop arena, we have Jill using a 15 inch monitor and Jan using a 30 inch monitor. Jill has mega sausage fingers, and Jan is a skinny 12 year old.

Jack, having no hands, is screwed..? (All these names being examples.)

Humans, being widely varied, and quite organic (messy), need a unifying OS... Something to bridge the gap between all our differences.

I personally love FlowCharts, Gmail's brilliant usage of key words, and good old fashioned well-designed menu's.

I hope to see 'in action' shots of all your ideas for further OS's, and not just MS. How about giving it an orange tint and calling it the future of Ubuntu?

Your centrally located sphere start menu is lovely, and I expect that will be the next wave in productive interfaces. Right clicking anywhere on the screen and seeing a menu pop up, showing running programs, available programs, alerts, and all that the current start bar does. All floating, on top of all windows, and then disappearing into nothingness at the press of a key, to clear the screen of clutter.

Everything being organic (in a healthy, flexible, way), smooth, and predicting the users patterns.

Well I could go on... I absolutely love sketching up interfaces of 'the future', and even possibilities of current technology. I'll let you go on with your evening now.

This is a fantastic idea! You should be working for Microsoft. Make sure you copyright your ideas because they are truly superior work or art.

I guess the Windows Rome OS is gonna be crazy if Microsoft can open up for contributors to build the look and feel and the functionality

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

digitalsoft In reply to acreontop [2007-02-03 21:33:54 +0000 UTC]

IMO i think microsoft should develop a system where the user designs there interface to a certain extent obv... so say you get a series of templates and you can maybe make your own or edit the premade ones.
