Well that's not fair, Dashie. You didn't give her a chance to answer your question. And you know 'Shy; she's going to need a considerable chunk of you just listening to put together her response. But you need to know the truth, and not just guesses.
A situation like this must be handled with patience and delicacy, especially with 'Shy as a part of it. And I know these things are not easy for you, but I also know you can manage them for one of your oldest friends if you have to.

I truly believe Rainbow does care for Fluttershy, but in light of going through a traumatic experience she doesn't want to consider a romantic relationship when there's nothing but emotional confusion. To go into such a relationship without knowing for certain what your heart truly feels could only lead to more heart-ache because everything the relationship would be based on would all be false. So while rejecting Fluttershy now would hurt, returning those feelings at this moment would serve to hurt her even more.

Rainbow isn't ready because she almost died and is still in her own way reeling. Rainbow is being a bit too blunt when Fluttershy is emotionally spent. So really they aren't being fair to each other at the moment.

i dont buy that fluttershy is confused i believe that she has loved rainbow for a very long time and kept it repressed but the near death experience was a wake up call like she at that moment released that she cant live without rainbow and that she must confess her feelings for rainbow that she has had for such a long time

I think that's a very good way to put it. Straight to the point.
Maybe it hurts like hell now, but it's better to tell her straight from the start, than to sugar coat it and dance around the subject to temporarily spare her feelings. If you do that, in the end, she'd be hurt WAY worse.
I've always been on the rejecting side, I don't get crushes. I've hurt people before.
But they always seem to recover much better when I'm blunt, than when I sugar-coat it. Or even when I'm cruel.
It seems to be, in fastest to slowest recovery: blunt > sugar coating > cruel.
I'm not even entirely sure cruel recovers. I'm sorry for past-me, people I've hurt. :c Past-me was scared and didn't know how things worked yet!

Harsh as Rainbow's answer may be, she's not wrong. Fluttershy is scared, confused and was terrified that she almost lost her oldest and probably best friend. It also seems that Rainbow doesn't return those feelings, but she also knows her friend and if she were to let Fluttershy continue it would just hurt both of them in the long-term.
Dash brought up the topic of families because she might be looking at her future life. Understandable considering her near-death experience. However, being who she is it was an awkward topic that she decided to bring up with one of her closest friends. The teasing was just her way of relieving the tension but sadly just ended up confusing Fluttershy more.

Totally agree with this. There is no easy way to say something like that; RD knows her words are going to hurt Fluttershy anyway. So better an honest and direct approach to avoid painful misunderstandings.

Honestly I don't think she is. Rainbow Dash is being realistic here. What Fluttershy did is the result of weeks holding back emotions and not being able to convey them in a message. Right now Fluttershy is super fucking confused about her feelings because Rainbow Dash almost died and Flutters almost lost her best friend. Because they've been friends for so long, Flutters can't bear to imagine life without Rainbow Dash. But at the same time, they've been FRIENDS for a really long time.
For this kiss to happen straight out of the blue is borderline shocking. Especially to Rainbow Dash. Plus you gotta consider Rainbow Dash's side on this. At most, she sees Fluttershy as a very good friend but I don't think she ever had any sort of feelings of romantic love for Fluttershy. And we can't expect Rainbow to suddenly feel like in love with Fluttershy right now due to reasons I've just explain. It would be unrealistic on how actual people would respond in situations like this.

No, you can't lie to her. Its better if you tell her the truth gently instead of just blurting it out in whatever way. Tell the truth, but be cautious in how you say it so as not to sound too harsh and upset her more than you should.

Truths are truths, no matter the words you use. You can be more gentle or more blunt, but in the end the meaning is the same, and there is no easy way to say something like that to somebody you care for; you know you are going to hurt him or her, no matter what you say. What´s more, direct and honest words are much better even if they sound blunt, because otherwise the other person can misunderstand you.
