Description I was going through the stock section the other day and ran across the background image I used here. It was another one of those that as soon as you see the stock you know exactly what you want to do with it...it's so nice when that happens. This didn't entirely come out the way I saw it in my head, but it's close. A lady and her companion...admire their surroundings and ponder the bigger things in life....or what to have for dinner.

Hehe...the thumb is kind of stretched which makes her look super skinny...not sure why it's doing that. Yes, her dress is beautiful...I really liked it and didn't modify it at all from the stock image. Thanks for commenting and for the !

Oh, great image! I have the same background stored on my PC, but every time I doodle with it I can't get anything to look right and natural with it. You did just that here; the way her hair is swept back couples with the unsettled water, and the seeminly serene posture she is adopting really adds to the confidence that a sorceress would have.... Or that's how I think of her, anyway, with the dragon by her side. I think it's the staff that brings that out to me more than anything, though.

But anyway, I'm rambling. Great pic! I've a friend who might enjoy this, so I'm going to pass it along to her.

It as if you've lifted a spy glass and were able to drawn yourself deep within it that moment and capturing a glance at such soft intimate portrait. I love the usage of all the materials. You have a keen eye and a passionate one at that. I do love this.

This is spectacular, a beautiful scene filled with imagination (and leaving room for the viewer’s imagination), so skillfully put together. I love the feeling of companionship between the woman and the dragon, and the pensive mood. I agree with galefra’s assessment of the planets being the one flaw, in my case because I feel they’re too strong a focus point – they draw my attention away from the rest of the image, which is so beautifully composed. However, others may feel that the planets add to the image – art appreciation is so subjective. Either way, this is a lovely work of art.

I am very happy you like it! I have to agree with you....that the planets are a bit of a distraction. Maybe if they were less bold.. I may fiddle with it more tomorrow and see what I can do. I really do want the woman and dragon to be what draws the eye in, so I should definitely see what I can do to remedy that. Thanks for sharing your view on the planet issue...that helps me figure out how to go about fixing it. I appreciate your kind words and the very much!

What you have done with the model, her hair, the mood, etc., is nothing short of fabulous. The dragon is wonderful. I actually love the way the image appears in the thumbnail, which only shows the woman .... and in expanded image, the rock and the dragon are also wonderful .... very convincing. The only aspect I don't like is the 3 planets in the upper left, which give a cut and paste appearance to what is otherwise a masterpiece. I have faved the image anyway because your skill and work is spectacular.

dinajen In reply to galefra [2006-11-05 01:52:50 +0000 UTC]

You hit on the one thing I wasn't happy about in the image. I knew how I wanted them to look....but couldn't seem to achieve it. Any pointers or suggestions? I thought about removing them and just using some planet and moon brushes instead, but that wasn't really what I was shooting for....meh. I really appreciate the comments and most of all the honest critique since I want to improve my skill.... thank you!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

galefra In reply to dinajen [2006-11-05 07:25:55 +0000 UTC]

The rest of the image is a complete masterpiece and I think that it leaves far more to the viewer's imagination if the planets weren't included. It leaves the viewer to wonder what she is pondering .... and the dragon is a very sweet touch, especially its size, and the rock is spectacular .... so there is already more than enough to keep the viewer's mind busy. Sometimes less is actually more.
