Description NOT MY LINES

I stumbled over them and found them prettyful and felt like I might as well use them for practising shading and colouring. here, trying to figure out muscles and stuff (though it doesn't really show), colours (thought it doesn't really show), back lightning (hoping that shows), and working with both hard and soft shadows (hoping that shows).

cause like, I've been staring at real-life stuff a lot and realized that there's no such thing as soft shading for a while now. there's almost always sharp lines as WELL as blurred ones, and since I figured that out I wanted to attempt to draw it and well... it's a start. |D

I really enjoy how this all came out. I still can colour, it seems like, though motivation to actually work out decent lines/sketches myself.. no. linearts I can work with though. -dislikes doing them herself-

oh and I would love crit on colouring shading etc yes so.. if you see anything? c: <3 -is in a practising!and!wants!to!get!better!phase-

That's so cool XD Being an art-nerd is awesome. You get to stare and stare at people for a proper reason and they probably think you're some sort of nutty pervert.
Of course, I try and take breif glimpses of many different people...
Yay for crowded trains.
This is really lovely shading, especially on her hair The highlights look so pretty and soft and I love the blue tint to the shading.
I love how you did all the folds of the cloth, too. X3 The muscles look nice, well-defined, and I love love love the eyes- they have that gorgeous spark of life to them. Very nice colour choices too!

-dies- It's so gooooood! O____O I'm sure there's something in there that could make it better, but I can't see it. <3 It's kind of different from your usual style, but it's really amazing! : D You seem pretty skilled with this already.

Ooo! I really like the shading. Its very soft and works well with the drawing. Advanced critique hummmm. *thinks* owo

I say try and go darker next time. You have some nice subtle shading on the skin tone, for example, but even your darkest dark remains in the light range. I say try and be brave and color a drawing with some really dark values to see how far you can take it. See if you can get a really dramatic look through your coloring.

This is mostly in regards to the skin tone, actually. Because the clothing etc is shaded pretty well I think. Just the skin is a little same-value, thats all.

I been thinking about dark values lately myself. People say always to go darker, but sometimes objects ARE subtlely shaded depending on the light. I wonder if we shade darker just because its told to us that its the right way to go.

ah, I see exactly what you mean now. x3 and you're absolutely correct. I'll watch out for that next time (:

and gee, shading is so difficult because you need to be hyper aware of the light - sometimes the light is so diffuse there doesn't appear to be shading at all, and sometimes it's almost like cell shading and two huge contrasts -shrug- I'm attempting to be a bit more aware of that but it's going so-so. x3

-nods in agreement!- I want to experiment with it myself. Like, when it snows for example. The lighting is so different from normal sunny days. I wonder what it'd be like to color something with that kind of lighting. Its all so complex. x3@

I attempted that, things go all dullishly grey and blueish and cold and diffuuuuse. x3 it's fun, but I need more practise. I like how the light change, like a sunset would make the colours warmer but winter would make it cold blabla that's quite obvious but yes. |D -needs to experiment moaar-

The shading is magnifecent! Just watch around the lower ummm... right thigh. (On her, it's her right) It need to be shaded a bit darker on the outside of it, from where you positioned the light, just saying. But all in all, a very good piece!!

(: Bra jobbat!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dinaria In reply to Yumechi [2009-03-02 18:17:52 +0000 UTC]

Yumechi In reply to Dinaria [2009-03-02 19:09:46 +0000 UTC]

Åhåå.. kunde ha varit lite ljusare skugga där dock. Och mörkare på andra sidan av benet.
