Personality: Barugon is a beast of pure instinct, it has no agenda or plans but to simply set it territory and destroy who threatens its safety.

Story
In 1966, when treasure hunters from Japan travelled to an island in New Guinea and stole an opal one of their buddies found back there during World War II, they had no idea what they were in for. The opal is exposed to an infrared ray. The ray’s radiation caused the opal to hatch and mutated Barugon, causing him to reach adult size within hours.

Once the ship docked in Japan, Barugon emerged from the boat and began his rampage across Japan. Missiles, fighter jets, and tanks were used against him, but Barugon's icy mist froze everything in his path and his rainbow ray, which brought Gamera to the area due the heat. Gamera and Barugon get into a brief battle, which ends with Barugon freezing Gamera with his icy mist and leaves him for dead as he continues his path of destruction.

The JSDF attacks Barugon again, but still nothing works. They even try using a large diamond brought by a native girl from New Guinea to attract Barugon to Lake Bewa and drown him, but it fails. The JSDF next decides to immobilize Barugon with artificial rain while they built a huge reflective mirror to reflect Barugon’s rainbow ray back at him. Once the giant mirror is constructed, the JSDF fires on Barugon, forcing him to attack with his rainbow ray, which is reflected back at him, severely injuring him, but the mutant survives. However, Gamera soon reappears, having thawed out from his previous battle with Barugon and makes short work of the quadruped kaiju, grabbing him by the throat and dragging him into a lake where he soon drowns.
