Confession time: Power Rangers RPM is my least favorite Power Rangers season, for a number of reasons. The premise just isn't right for a main Power Rangers season (a spin-off, maybe -- an official TV season, not so much), the story is contrived and predictable, the characters are either incredibly dull or annoying (I'm looking at you, Ziggy Grover), it tried to be both dark and meta and failed miserably at both, and as a whole, it just feels like it doesn't want to be a Power Rangers season. The one bright spot is the cast, which seemed to genuinely get along and had more acting talent than you'd usually expect from Power Rangers (it's no wonder the likes of Eka Darville, Rose McIver and Adelaide Kane have moved on to bigger roles nowadays). It's a hot mess, but many Power Rangers fans still hold it in high regard, probably because it aired during a time in which fandom still had that backwards mentality that just because something is dark and edgy and gritty it's automatically better.

The worst part of it all is that... I do believe Engine Sentai Go-Onger is one of those Sentai series that would've worked perfectly as a Power Rangers season if they just stuck to the basic premise. It has that charm and fun and campiness that the classic Power Rangers seasons are known for, and the overall message of protecting the enviroinment and preventing pollution, if done right, would've made perfect sense considering the original Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers every so often were in charge of big events encouraging the protection of the enviroinment, like charity drives and whatnot. Just a little trim around the edges, especially in regards to the more humorous moments, and a few small modifications to make it suit American audiences would've been enough, rather than what they actually did.

With this in mind, I started writing a story about what a different, more loyal Power Rangers adaptation of Go-Onger would've been like. It's still on three chapters at the moment, but I'm planning on getting it finished on my own pace. The characters portrayed above are, obviously, the starting team. From left to right, we have:

Ola Irwin (Racing Performance Green Ranger), the laid-back new girl in town;
Felix Kinsey (Racing Performance Blue Ranger), the short-tempered techie of the group;
Aaron Hong (Racing Performance Red Ranger), the reckless self-proclaimed leader;
Sadie Berenger (Racing Performance Yellow Ranger), the gentle nature lover;
Ricky Sheppard (Racing Performance Black Ranger), the sensitive big brother type.
