Description Name: Basaera
Gender: Male
Type: Unknown
Alignment: Aggressive
Height: 33 ft
Weight: 175 tons
Biography: Basaera is a wild monster, known to prowl the Northern provinces of Tarrun. Feral and animalistic, he lacks the human-like intelligence of some other kaiju and acts mostly on instinct. Though highly carnivorous, he exhibits behavior more like that of a scavenger, preying on the sick, weak, and deceased. He rarely seeks live or healthy prey, and has even been known to frequent landfills in order to feed on garbage.
Cowardice, however, is not something that he is well known for. Despite being a relatively un-intimidating creature that feeds on carrion, Basaera is one of the most foul-tempered monsters known to man. Raucous, vicious, and bold, he will eagerly confront rivals twice his size and drive them off for food and territory. His attacks, though not particularly powerful, are savage and completely unrelenting. When angered, he is as ferocious as any predator.
Another of Basaera’s strong points is resilience. To protect himself from the deadly bacteria that grows in his food, he has developed a highly advanced immune system. Able to quickly break down and destroy any harmful pathogens that make their way into his body, he is completely immune to the effects of viruses and infectious diseases. Likewise, he appears to display a similarly powerful immunity to toxins and venoms- though according to some historians, this ability is not as innate as his tolerance to disease and took many years to develop. It is also said that he possesses a mild form of regeneration, though this remains unconfirmed.
While formidable in his own right, it still goes without saying that Basaera is far from being one of Tarrun’s most dangerous inhabitants. His rampant aggression does not always work in his favor, especially since the rise of the Guardian Alliance. The giant scavenger has been defeated by Theraga more than once, and since his last defeat has become quite wary of traveling beyond his territory. For the people of the Northern realms, however, he remains a pertinent threat.

Trivia: Though he is immune to their effects, Basaera can still contract diseases. He carries so many, in fact, that it is nearly impossible for another monster to fight him without falling ill. His blood and saliva are especially hazardous.

Love the diseased motif, as well as combining a beak with antlers.

Sweet! We need more scavenger-like monsters, as impossible and as crazy as it sounds, to even out the giant monster ecosytem.

Seriously, when a giant monster is killed, it's gonna take those maggots forever to pick it clean, and no man wants to be stepping out of his front door to be greeted by a dead monster every day, and plus it would decrease property value.

Indeed, I'm sure there are at least a few people in Tarrun who like Basaera for that reason, haha. Thanks!

God, this guy is cool. A quadropedal vulture lizard. Love it.

I love the bald head, it looks really vicious. The fluffy down covering him looks great, expecially with the stripes, as does the crest along his back. Great work on this one!

I see that you managed to work in those highlights we discussed quite nice. I didn't think he was going to wind up being red in color, but great stuff anyway.

*sees DH has a new kaiju*
*gets excited*

he may be an ugly mofo, but definitely awesome!

tiny question, is that hole supposed to be on his head, or is that an uncolored nostril? if its supposed to be there, very cool! (not saying a...nostril isn't cool, but that funky skull is definitely awesome)

Thanks! It is indeed a hole in his skull! I think there are some vulture species that have that, or at least something similar. I thought it'd be a cool design element to use here.

RenDragonClaw [2009-12-21 23:13:33 +0000 UTC]

Combining the best features of Komodo Dragon, Vulture, and Stag, this guy is really something else DH. A scavenger kaiju is a something that doesn't get thought about a lot but really helps a kaijuverse feels more natural and authentic because thats the kinda shit we have in nature. It'd be funny seeing him and Ookondoru go at it.
