Description Name: Delgaro
Gender: Males/Females
Type: Saurian
Alignment: Aggressive
Height: 70 feet
Weight: 210 tons
Biography: The name Delgaro does not belong to one singular monster, but to a group of kaiju apparently belonging to the same species. The Delgaro live in hot, dry climates and prefer open expanses of land over jungles or forests. They produce high levels of testosterone and are very aggressive towards other monsters, attacking almost anything and literally fighting until they collapse. Delgaro very rarely kill their opponents, however, as they feel they are asserting their dominance by sparing the life of a defeated enemy.
Being a species, there are both male and female Delgaros. The two sexes are nearly indistinguishable, as both are horned and of the same general size. The only noticeable difference is that females are slightly less aggressive and are of a lighter coloration. Both males and females show variation in horn structure, with some possessing larger or more strongly curved horns than others.
As a whole, the Delgaro are pure melee fighters. They possess great physical strength and endurance, but cannot launch ranged attacks of any kind. They counterbalance this with a moderate healing factor, though their regeneration is certainly not on par with that of more powerful monsters.

Trivia: Delgaro horns (especially strongly curved ones) are a commonly used building material in Kulma. They are usually harvested from the desert, where kaiju skeletons can easily be found.

--------

Name: Zentaru
Gender: N/A
Type: Unknown
Alignment: Aggressive
Height: 80 feet
Weight: 245 tons
Biography: An odd looking monster, Zentaru is known to roam the lands of upper Tarrun. It appears to lack a respiratory and digestive system, having no mouth or nostrils. Its hide is rough and pebbly like a reptile's, but its more armored regions seem to be made of a metal-like substance. Kaijuologists have been completely unable to categorize it.
Though its purpose in life is unknown, it is clear that it does not welcome interruptions- Zentaru will immediately attack other kaiju and destroy any cities in its path. It attacks by launching bolts of electricity from its back, which travel in streaks of six (three bolts from each side) and arc before striking their target. Zentaru can guide each individual bolt in order to strike multiple targets at once- though the attack is far more potent when concentrated on one individual.
Zentaru can also form a shield in front of itself to block attacks. It is invisible until struck, in which case it flashes yellow and delivers a strong electric shock. It is present for as long as Zentaru needs it and apparently has a very low energy cost. Though many monsters do not realize it, the shield only provides protection from the front and does not surround Zentaru entirely. Alternatively, it can also be broken through sheer force (assuming the attacker can survive the resulting electrocution).

Trivia: Zentaru does not have vocal cords. Instead it produces its roar by generating sound from an elongated organ located above its brain. The resulting sound waves bounce around inside its metallic skull, giving the “roar” it’s unnatural, mechanical sound.

--------

Name: Gravix
Gender: Male
Type: Arthropod
Alignment: Aggressive
Height: 79 feet
Weight: 235 tons
Biography: A cyclops monster from Southern Tarrun, Gravix would best be described as an armored brute. In this regard his human-like build is quite misleading; Gravix is infamously dim witted. A slow thinker and an abysmal strategist, the closest thing he has to a redeeming quality is his sheer determination… which is only the result of his inability to know when to quit.
Luckily for him, his strength is far greater than his intellect. He is muscular, heavily built, and better yet protected by a thick (and surprisingly light) exoskeleton. Using his bulky frame, mandibles, and pincers he can actually handle himself very well in a melee. In addition to this he can fire a concentrated beam of energy from his eye to attack from a distance. A red, medium-strength ray, it is fairly effective against other kaiju but works best when used against manmade targets like buildings and vehicles- which is one of the few things that he is fully aware of.
Gravix is a known city destroyer, gladly smashing everything in his path. His attacks are bold and eager, and it often seems that he enjoys the damage the brings. The only reason he has not received placement as a Destructive is because he does not seem to fully realize the ramifications of his actions. Much like the child who torments ants with a magnifying glass, Gravix likely has no idea that his victims don’t appreciate being burned and stomped on.

Trivia: Gravix is especially armored on his back and head, where the shell covering him is three times denser and twice as thick. Unfortunately for him, having a thick exoskeleton and a small head is not the best way to develop a big brain.

--------

Name: Big Bertha
Gender: Female
Type: Saurian
Alignment: Placid
Height: 75 feet (upright)
Weight: 230 tons
Biography: A colorful but otherwise very basic monster, Big Bertha lives in the jungles of Southern Tarrun. Unlike most saurians, she does not drag her tail and maintains a horizontal stance while walking and running. As a result, she is much faster than the majority of her cousins. Bertha rarely puts this advantage to use, though, as she has a very peaceful disposition. She avoids conflict whenever possible, shying away from human settlements and other monsters.
During the times when she is forced to defend herself, Big Bertha will attack by firing a potent white beam from her mouth. Though strong in a concussive sense, this beam is devoid of any elemental imbuement and does not release heat, acting more like a battering ram than anything else. Of course, Bertha is also sufficient in tooth-and-claw, able to put her meaty claws and toothy, powerful jaws to good use. Still, she is a jack of all trades- though adequate in nearly all aspects of combat, she has no extraordinary traits that set her above other kaiju.
Lastly, it is worth noting that there is an urban legend revolving around Big Bertha. According to the myth, Bertha stays in the jungle because she is guarding something: more specifically, a ancient Surudian gold mine. There is no evidence to support this claim, of course, and several explorers have ventured into her territory to dispel the idea. None have found gold (or Surudian relics of any kind), though at least two researchers claim that Bertha did appear “unusually agitated” in their presence. Despite the severe lack of proof, treasure hunters still trek into the jungle in search her hidden cache.

Trivia: Big Bertha is an excellent example of a kaiju that does not eat. Though well equipped for life as a predator, she does not hunt (or even scavenge), apparently having an aversion to violence.

--------

Name: Jagerdon
Gender: Male
Type: Saurian
Alignment: Placid
Height: 71 feet
Weight: 250 tons
Biography: An armored monster that has been sighted all across Tarrun, Jagerdon dwells in secluded, forested areas. He is mainly herbivorous, but has been observed on numerous occasions feeding on dirt as well. He is a placid, solitary creature and has been listed by the Grand Council as being of no concern to mankind‘s safety.
Jagerdon fights only to protect himself, and even then is not very aggressive. He generally takes a defensive approach to combat, attacking cautiously and relying primarily on his ability to block and intercept enemy attacks. He does this by use of the bony plates covering his body, which are extremely thick and are (according to some) further hardened by the minerals he ingests when eating soil. Jagerdon also displays a notable resistance to both heat and cold based attacks.
Offense, on the other hand, is not his strong suit. Weighed down by his armor, Jagerdon is quite slow and cumbersome. He also does not have a very good reach, with his tail probably being his most effective weapon. He is also limited to close range combat, having no beams or projectiles to speak of.

Trivia: Glyphs on one of the stone obelisks near Kulma show a monster that may be Jagerdon. If this is truly the case, he is (at least) three thousand years old.

Just to reiterate, [link] is not a canon event, so all of the monsters shown here are still alive.

-Googles it-

Yeah, I see where you're coming from. I honestly can't say that was one of my influences, though- I haven't kept up with Pokemon since the second series, lol.

Piatnitskysaurus In reply to DinoHunter2 [2009-08-24 07:35:05 +0000 UTC]

Indeed. It has gotten less like pokemon and more like "lets design a bunch of characters that look like anything", seeing as we have pokemon deities, and strange things such as baloon pokemon.

DinoHunter2 In reply to Piatnitskysaurus [2009-08-24 18:29:49 +0000 UTC]

Yeah... the deities were definitely a turn for the worse. They're all way too powerful, and I preferred having the pokemon's origins as a mystery anyway. I was fine with the legendary birds and cats... but they just went overboard after that.

Very cool designs, especially Zentaru.

So, by cannon fodder, do you mean basically monsters of the week variety?

Yeah. Just like how Batman can't be fighting Poison Ivy or the Joker all the time- there's gotta be some weaker guys in between.

Anywho, very cool pics. I can't pick a favorite, they're all neat in their own ways.

I'm sorry to hear that you dislike the last two that strongly. They're all canon fodder though, so I wasn't exactly going all out with the designs- the point was to make them all somewhat basic-looking, so I can see why you might feel that way. Thanks for giving your input anyway.

I love the crab-like one, the Gravix I believe! Not only do you have such...skill, but you put the science behind it. I love it that you take the extra step to add those great descriptions to all of your work!

I have a bunch of ideas, but I lack the awesome-ness to put them from my brain to my paper

Oh boy, a whole bunch monsters for the price of one submition! I like how a lot of these guys are surly but not exactly out to obliterate the world despite being aggressive. They have that Ultraman 'natural kaiju' vibe to them and those ones are some of the best kind because they can fit into their enviroment in a less jarring fashion than other monsters. Design wise they are all great looking, Jagerdon, Zentaru, and Gravix being among the most unique of the bunch. Looking forward to more.
